Cousin Camp: A Grandparent's Guide to Creating Fun, Faith, and Memories That Last by Susan Alexander Yates

Cousin Camp: A Grandparent's Guide to Creating Fun, Faith, and Memories That LastABOUT THE BOOK

In a world where our families are more scattered than ever, true and lasting family connections are hard to forge and even harder to maintain--and they don't happen by accident. For grandparents who long to create a close-knit bond in their family, popular speaker and parenting expert Susan Alexander Yates has a revolutionary new book.

Cousin Camp is an inspiring, practical book that outlines how grandparents can plan and host a camp. Grandmother to 21 grandchildren, Yates has been creating cousin camps and family camps for years. Now she passes on what she's learned so you can help your children and grandchildren develop meaningful, lasting connections with each other--and with you!

Full of specific, practical ideas and hilarious stories, this book contains everything you need to know from initial planning (who, when, and where) to a daily schedule to specific ways to build friendships among family members. Yates also includes plenty of ideas for family camps and reunions to draw everyone closer.

MY THOUGHTS.....

One of my best memories as a child are the ones connected with 4-H Camp. The crafts and games during the day and then, at night, sitting around the campfire or taking part in the talent show that was always held on the last night. Other favorite memories are my visits to my grandparents' house during the summer and having some of my cousins there. Susan Alexander Yates and her husband have taken it one step further by having cousin camps for their grandchildren and they truly offer them a camp experience. These camps were meant to help the cousins from different states get to know each but they have also given their grandparents the chance to stress the importance of faith and worship.

Yates has written this book to share the knowledge and experiences she has learned from these times and Cousin Camp is full of valuable advice to help others plan such an event. At the end of each chapter there are Questions to Consider with space to jot down your thoughts and there's also a 'Designing Your Camp' chapter that allows you to develop your own individual plan. Suggestions for activities, daily schedules, and a chapter devoted to prayer are also included.

This book provides a wealth of information and much of it can be adapted for family reunions. You will want to read it if you are wanting to create bonds with your grandchildren, if you desire to grow closer to all of your family, and if you want memories that will last a life time. Cousin Camp is an exceptional guide to help you achieve these goals.

I voluntarily received this book from the author. There was no obligation to post a favorable review and these are my honest thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
