Once Upon the Very First Christmas by Rory Feek; Christine Cuddihy (Illustrator)

Once Upon the Very First Christmas
ABOUT THE BOOK

Bestselling author and songwriter Rory Feek takes children and families on a beloved journey to Christmas past in Once Upon the Very First Christmas. On a picturesque farm, schoolchildren gather their homemade costumes and props and put on a heartwarming Christmas play for the community. As they don halos for the angel choir or round up sheep for the final nativity scene, readers will be immersed in the greatest blessings of Christmas—the gift of Jesus — and be reminded that we can rejoice together in the wonder of the season.

Rory's soothing and lyrical retelling of the Christmas story
  • is paired with magical illustrations by Christine Cuddihy of a homemade Christmas play,
  • is perfect for ages 4 to 8, and
  • is a great gift for Christmas, baby showers, and baptisms.
Take a moment to slow down this Advent and Christmas to treasure that first Christmas, God's gift of Jesus, and every precious moment He's given you to celebrate with family and friends.

You can purchase your own copy HERE.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This new children's book will surely become a Christmas classic! Author Rory Feek and illustrator Christine Cuddihy have combined their talents for this sweet story that shows children acting out the Christmas story. It's a fun and realistic depiction of the Christmas plays we've all seen over the years, with children in bathrobes and fake beards but the difference is that the children live in a farming community. That means that there's a one-room schoolhouse setting, real farm animals that don't always act as they should, and even a few characters that resemble Rory Feek and his little girl Indiana!

The colorful illustrations and the rhyming text make this a book that children will love. It's short enough to retain a toddler's short attention span and the simple text is perfect for beginning readers, but the true joy of this book will come from families reading it together! I love Once Upon the Very First Christmas!

I received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson via FrontGate Media. There was no obligation for a positive review.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Her Christmas Healing (Hope Crossing, #4) by Mindy Obenhaus

Her Christmas Healing: An Uplifting Inspirational Romance (K-9 Companions, 17)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Christmas is around the corner…

And love might be right next door.

Hope Crossing, Texas, is just what Jillian McKenna needs. Here, she can recover after a terrible attack…and create a home for her baby-to-be. But she also has a complication next door. She once saw a future with veterinarian Gabriel Vaughn—a future that feels impossible now. But with love, faith, a support dog and some Christmas spirit, maybe it’s not too late after all.

MY THOUGHTS.....

I challenge anyone who reads this story to remain dry-eyed and emotionally unaffected! Author Mindy Obenhaus tackles the sensitive subject of a pregnancy resulting from a physical attack and the victim's determination to keep her baby. I admired Jillian's absolute conviction that moving to Hope Crossing would be the best solution for her and her unborn child, and I could totally understand Gabriel's initial confusion and hurt when he realized that Jillian was pregnant. Had his hopes for their future been totally one-sided?

Obenhaus handles this controversial topic with delicacy and sensitivity and the end results are both heartwarming and realistic. She's able to convey the trust and faith that would be necessary in a similar situation and her depiction of Jillian and Gabriel's viewpoints are spot-on! Readers also get to witness the support of the two amazing grandmothers who live in the Texas town that we've come to love.

I couldn't ask for a more perfect story to read and savor during this special time that celebrates the most unconventional birth of all! I highly recommend Her Christmas Healing to all who enjoy Christian romantic fiction that's infused with faith, hope, healing, and forgiveness!

I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review, and I am voluntarily sharing my thoughts.

Deadly Sabotage (Honor Protection Specialists, #3) by Elizabeth Goddard

Deadly Sabotage (Honor Protection Specialists Book 3)
ABOUT THE BOOK

A fatal explosion…hides a lethal conspiracy.

After barely escaping a lab explosion that kills her boss, microbiologist Kinsley Langell discovers that the blast was no accident—someone intentionally set off a bomb. With a target on her back and the police compromised, Kinsley must rely on her ex, protection specialist Brett Honor, to help investigate the crime. But someone won’t stop until she’s silenced—this time permanently. Can Kinsley and Brett uncover the culprit before hired killers finish the job?

MY THOUGHTS.....

One look at the cover of Deadly Sabotage and you know that there's an exciting story waiting inside! An explosion in a lab sends Kinsley Langell on the run and the only person she can turn to is the man who once broke her heart. Is she foolish to place her trust in Brett Honor one more time?

Author Elizabeth Goddard spins another intriguing story in this third book of her Honor Protection Specialists series that's set in the Pacific Northwest. There are twists, turns, and baffling clues, but there's also the chance for Brett to repair his relationship with Kinsley. So, find your favorite reading spot and just imagine that beautiful Mt. Rainier is outside your window. I recommend Deadly Sabotage to all who enjoy adventure, suspense, and second-chance romance!

A Family for the Orphans (Triple C Ranch, #2) by Heidi Main

A Family for the Orphans: An Uplifting Inspirational Romance
ABOUT THE BOOK

Three little hearts have been broken.

Now they must find a way to heal them…

Tragedy turned Walker McCaw from bachelor cowboy to guardian of his late best friend’s three children. Now they’re living on a new horse farm—and it’s a disaster. MY THOUGHTS.....

Oh, my! Author Heidi Main shares a story that tugged at my heartstrings and left me grabbing my tissues! Tears for the sadness and grief of the three small children who had lost their parents, and a hurting heart for the two adults who became their guardians. Would Walker's feelings of guilt and Trisha's insecurities stand in the way? Could they keep the promise they'd made to their late friends?

The Dino Who Saved Christmas (The Dino Brothers) by Manda Mac

ABOUT THE BOOK

Oh, no! Santa Claws lost his Christmas spirit and canceled Christmas. Will there be presents to spread Christmas joy? Join The Dino Brothers on their adventure to the North Pole to help Santa Claws find his Christmas spirit. Will they find it in time to save Christmas?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Santa Claws has lost his Christmas spirit, and some very cute dinosaurs are on a mission to help him find it again. Author Manda Mac shares a fun, entertaining story and the colorful illustrations by Key Payne are adorable attention grabbers but the real key to this book's appeal is the inspiring message found on its pages. Children are reminded that giving and getting gifts is great, but the true focus should always be on Jesus. He is the true reason for the season!

Little dinosaur lovers will love seeing the different dinosaurs rush to help Santa Claws but this book is an enjoyable read for all children! The Dino Who Saved Christmas is sure to become a holiday favorite for parents and children alike!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author, but a positive review was never required. These are my own thoughts.

Ruth's Ginger Snap Surprise (The Heart of the Amish) by Anne Blackburne

Ruth's Ginger Snap Surprise (The Heart of the Amish)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Ruth Defies Authority to Hold on to her Family Farm

Full of faith, hope, and romance, this new series takes you into the Heart of Amish country.

Ruth Helmuth has never been rude in her life; trust her to choose the bishop of her Amish community for the first time!

Ruth has worked hard to keep body and soul together since her husband, Levi’s, death. She tends her herd of goats, making her living from the milk and fiber she gets from them, all while running a farm and household by herself—and very competently, thank you! How could she imagine the bishop suggesting she should give it all up to another family, who will “make better use of the space”?

Enter widower Jonas Hershberger, owner of a pair of adorable dimples and father of a charming 4-year-old daughter. Jonas is in need of a larger place to house his growing business. Ruth’s big red barn may be just the ticket. Little Abigail is in need of a new mother. Ruth might be just the ticket there, too!

Can two independent souls learn to work together for their mutual good? And will they be willing to explore what grows between them?  Or will Ruth’s fear over her “big secret” and Jonas’s caution about allowing someone new to get close to his young daughter, kill their love before it has a chance to grow?

Luckily for both of them, God’s plan involves the stubborn pair getting a little help in the form of a wise, elderly friend; a quirky orange kitten; and a smart little girl who takes one look at Ruth and decides she would make her the perfect new mother!

MY THOUGHTS.....

It's great to discover new authors but it's even better when they offer a fresh voice in one of your favorite genres. Debut author Anne Blackburne shares a story with wonderful characters, a sweet romance, and a strong faith message, but it also includes doubt and conflict. Young widow Ruth Helmuth may be forced to leave her family farm unless she can convince the Amish bishop that she's capable of managing it by herself. Will she have to leave the home that's been in her family for many years, the place that's perfect for her goats and an adorable kitten named Ginger Snap?

I was fully engaged in this story of second chances and starting over. I found myself cheering for Ruth and hoping that she would achieve her happily ever after. And, without giving any spoilers, there is a fantastic epilogue. Believe me, you're in for a treat!

I recommend Ruth's Ginger Snap Surprise to all who enjoy Amish fiction. It's the second book in the Heart of the Amish series but it can certainly be considered a standalone.

I was gifted with an advance copy of this book by the author, and I am providing my honest review of this book.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

When she isn't writing or working at her day job as the managing editor of a weekly newspaper in Southeast Ohio, Anne enjoys traveling to exciting new and beloved old places; visiting with friends, preferably on her front deck on a warm summer afternoon; swimming, kayaking, reading (she admits to three hours a day), and participating in community theater. She sings in her church choir and loves coffee and donut time after services, when she gets to see people she only sees at church. If Anne could live anywhere at all, it would be by water, where she would spend a lot of time walking in the sand, communing with God, through the wonder of His nature, and searching for sea glass.

Be The Sunshine by Sunshine Rodgers

About the Book

 Be The Sunshine

Author: Sunshine Rodgers

Genre: Christian Nonfiction

Release Date: August 26, 2022

The one difficulty with having the name Sunshine is that people expect me to be…. well, sunshine all the time.

I have learned over time to embrace the Sunshine-ness that is my name. Yes, I may not always be joyful or exuberant all the time, but I have learned that if I rely on my friends, my family, and my faith, I can conquer each day head-on and live every moment with an expectation of goodness.

And that’s what I wanted to share in this book, Be The Sunshine. It’s not a book about how to be happy or seven ways to stay positive. These pages are about being yourself, showing the world your true colors, and being mindful of the moment. These chapters contain personal stories so that we all can experience love and joy for ourselves as well as shining that light on those around us!

So, just follow my voice. When it comes to being the sunshine, well, I know the way!

MY THOUGHTS.....

Sunshine Rodgers has chosen to live up to her name by trying to brighten the lives of those around her, and she hopes others will do the same. In her book, Be the Sunshine, Rodgers shares suggestions to help them achieve that goal.

"Become the best version of yourself so that you can help other people be the best version of themselves."

This book is written in an easy, conversational style that made me feel like I was talking with the author as she shared personal stories, an abundance of Bible scripture, and the value of faith, friends, and family.

"I can't win over everyone, but I can positively influence those that God sets in my paths"

Her suggestions are both worthy and attainable, and the encouraging and inspirational thoughts truly motivated me! I recommend Be the Sunshine to all who enjoy Christian nonfiction.

I received a complimentary copy from the author via Celebrate Lit Book Tours. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Warsaw Sisters by Amanda Barratt

The Warsaw Sisters
ABOUT THE BOOK

On a golden August morning in 1939, sisters Antonina and Helena DÄ…browska send their father off to defend Poland against the looming threat of German invasion. The next day, the first bombs fall on Warsaw, decimating their beloved city and shattering the world of their youth.

When Antonina's beloved Marek is forced behind ghetto walls along with the rest of Warsaw's Jewish population, Antonina turns her worry into action and becomes a key figure in a daring network of women risking their lives to shelter Jewish children. Helena finds herself drawn into the ranks of Poland's secret army, joining the fight to free her homeland from occupation. But the secrets both are forced to keep threaten to tear the sisters apart--and the cost of resistance proves greater than either ever imagined.

Shining a light on the oft-forgotten history of Poland during WWII and inspired by true stories of ordinary individuals who fought to preserve freedom and humanity in the darkest of times, The Warsaw Sisters is a richly rendered portrait of courage, sacrifice, and the resilience of our deepest ties.

MY THOUGHTS.....

I just finished The Warsaw Sisters and I'm once again in awe of this author's writing talent. I was immediately transported to 1939 Poland and fully engaged in the moving story of two sisters who find their lives altered forever by the events of WWII. Antonina and Helena's homeland is overtaken by German occupation and author Amanda Barratt offers a stunning depiction of despair, grief, and extreme brutality that is buffered by hope, faith, and the strength of the human spirit.

The Warsaw Sisters is told from the POVs of both Antonina and Helena, so we're shown each twin's thoughts about being separated from each other and the difficult choices that they make to survive. Barratt's extensive research is evident as she seamlessly weaves facts and fiction into a riveting tale that spans a period of five years. The emotions are often raw and powerful, and I was left to wonder how I would have reacted in the same circumstances.

Barratt has written other books about the plight of the Jews during World War II and this story illustrates why she's becoming one of the leading authors in historical fiction. I highly recommend The Warsaw Sisters!

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Revell through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Her Secret Hope (A Season in Pinecraft, #3) by Shelley Shepard Gray

Her Secret Hope: (An Amish Christian Romance Series about Living Fully, Friendships, Heartbreaks, and Finding Love)ABOUT THE BOOK

Almost two years after Lilly Kurtz first traveled to Pinecraft, Florida, with friends, she's decided to make a fresh start there. She's ready to be new-and-improved Lilly, a Lilly without a past, a Lilly with no secrets. At first, everything goes well. She gets a job, her coworkers feel like family, and she enjoys reconnecting with her friends. But it turns out the past is reluctant to be left behind.

When Lilly meets hardworking farmer Eddie Byler, she can't get him off of her mind. But then she discovers that Eddie actually lives just a few miles from her hometown in Ohio. Lilly knows that he's not going to like it when he finds out what secrets she's been running from. And she knows she could never follow the man she's falling in love with back to a place where she's never felt accepted.

Will Lilly have to give up on love in order to find peace? Or could it be that love is actually the solution to all of her problems?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Such a wonderful way to wrap up a series! Readers are reunited with characters from the previous books and given the chance to know one of them even better. Oh, how I loved Lilly Kurtz! She is sweet, thoughtful, and giving, and so painfully aware that she is adopted. Thankfully, she has old friends who value her worth, and two new friends who recognize just how special she is. Eddie Byler and his grandmother November are both gems and I loved the respect and support that they offer Lilly, something that has been lacking in Lilly's relationship with her parents. I must say that I had a hard time liking Fran and Gabe Kurtz, but author Shelley Shepard Gray is able to redeem them in my eyes. More proof that she has a unique talent for placing fallible characters in everyday situations and making them likable and believable!

A Season in Pinecraft has been an enjoyable series and Her Secret Hope may be my favorite of the three books. It has sweet romance, characters that I would enjoy knowing, and a setting that I would love to visit one day! I recommend this book to all who enjoy contemporary Amish romance.

I received a complimentary copy from Revell through a Library Thing giveaway. There was no obligation for a positive review.

But a greater danger awaits them in the exotic paradise of Hawaii. No stranger to dangerous situations, Mark has faced death before. But this time, the danger is personal. I really enjoyed this book! It is a well-written story with likable characters, family drama, and an inspiring faith message woven into its plot. I was kept totally engaged by the constant danger and unanswered questions, and I couldn't wait to learn more about Heather and Mark. Would their tantalizing attraction for each other turn into something more?

Lethal Pursuit is the first book that I've read by Jennifer Chastain but it certainly won't be my last! I recommend it to all who enjoy romantic Christian suspense.
