Wanda E. Brunstetter's Amish Friends No Waste Cookbook

ABOUT THE BOOK

When times are hard, the family budget gets tighter.

Do you struggle with feeding your family as the cost of everything rises? This cookbook is designed to help.

New, from
New York Times bestselling author of Amish fiction, Wanda E. Brunstetter, is a valuable cookbook for when times are hard and costs are on the rise. Amish and Mennonite cooks offer recipes and advice for saving money, stretching a meal, and eliminating waste in the kitchen. Over 270 recipes are divided into traditional categories from main dishes and sides to desserts and snacks. Encased in a lay-flat binding and presented in full color, home cooks of all ages will find this cookbook to be a wonderful addition to their collections.

I'm always excited to view Wanda Brunstetter's cookbooks so I'm especially eager to get a copy of her newest offering! The Amish Friends No Waste Cookbook was released on October 1st and it's perfect for today's economy. Our paychecks are stretched to the limit, we're struggling to make ends meet, and we need help! Who better to help us than the Amish and Mennonite women who know the importance of using leftovers and having 'no waste'?

I don't have my own copy yet, but I've had a sneek peak at some of the recipes. Tonight, for Sunday evening supper, I made the Hamburger Potato Casserole and it was delicious! My family likes cheddar cheese so I tweaked the recipe and added shredded cheddar cheese to the top. Yum Yum!

Most families have hectic mornings trying to get out the door to school and work, so breakfast may often be sugar-filled doughnuts or breakfast bars. How about a recipe for Breakfast Cereal Cake? Even the pickiest eater will probably enjoy having 'cake' for breakfast, and we know exactly what's in it!

I was able to view the Table of Contents on the Amish Friends No Waste Cookbook's Amazon page and there are over 270 recipes in nine different categories. There are also two special sections, Advice for Hard Time and Household Advice & Tips. In the section of Miscellaneous Recipes, there are several DIY recipes for home products! Have you ever tried making your own laundry soap or shampoo?

Now you can see why I'm so looking forward to this book. Many of our grandparents and great-grandparents raised large families during the Depression years, and they knew the importance of no waste! They believed in the saying "Waste not, want not" and they succeeded, didn't they?  We can, too,  but a little guidance from Brunstetter's Amish friends is always appreciated!. And, you know what? Once I get my cookbook, I plan to sit back, put my feet up, and browse to my heart's content. I may even have a cup of Maple Mocha!

On the Way to Christmas: Three Stories by Amy Clipston, Sheila Roberts, & Melissa Ferguson

On the Way to Christmas: Three Stories
ABOUT THE BOOK

Between Thanksgiving and Christmas, anything can happen.

In this glittering and heartwarming collection, three of today’s bestselling sweet romance novelists offer up the gift of cheer for the winter holiday season.

A Christmas Do-Over by Sheila Roberts

Darby doesn’t want to go home for the holidays, but a career fail sends her slinking back to the small town she always wanted to escape. No one there is especially glad to see the former mean girl—especially not her sister, Erica, or childhood best friend, Gregory. Darby is working hard to be a better person, but has she eaten enough humble pie to make amends?

Dashing Through the Snow by Melissa Ferguson

When Willow’s boyfriend of seven years dumps her on the eve of a romantic getaway, she decides to take the two-week train trip on The Christmas Express alone. Hurt as she feels, she can’t anticipate how the hilarious rebound ride with conductor Oliver, elf Ian, and aging world adventurer Clarence will heal her heart—and renew her sense of worth.

A Perfectly Splendid Christmas by Amy Clipston

Kacey adores the metropolitan life, but when she gets away to help her sister during a family crisis and run her bakery, she falls in love with former classmate Drew. The problem: he’s a small-town man, and she’s a big-city woman. Is their love big enough to overcome such a major difference?

Curl up with your favorite holiday drink and sink into three worlds where dreams once thought long-gone are still within reach.

“Filled with Christmas spirit, and a little chaos, too, all three stories left my heart filled with joy . . . Five stars overall! ” —Nancy Naigle, bestselling author

Three stand-alone romantic holiday novellas
Book length: 70,000 words
Includes discussion questions for book clubs

MY THOUGHTS.....

Are you ready for some Christmas inspiration, but short on reading time? This is the book for you! Three different authors relate unique stories that remind us of the many emotions of Christmas, and each tale has great characters, a heartwarming romance, and many of the special traditions that we associate with the season.

Sheila Roberts shares the tale of a mean girl who reluctantly goes back home for Christmas. Darby knows she should change but will she be able to make amends? In  'A Christmas Do-Over' Roberts reminds us that second chances are always possible,

Willow embarks on a cross-country trip on The Christmas Express and encounters romance, adventure, and elves galore! Melissa Ferguson made me feel like I was also there, 'Dashing Through the Snow'!

'A Perfectly Splendid Christmas' is especially appealing, and I enjoyed watching Kacey and Drew's reunion as they spend Christmas in Splendid Lake, North Carolina. Amy Clipston kept me fully engaged in this heartwarming story, and I kept hoping that Kacey and Drew might find more than a renewed friendship! This was my favorite story of the three!!

This is a book to savor, as you're invited to take part in baking cookies, Christmas caroling, family get-togethers, and attending the Christmas Tree Lighting Festival. On the Way to Christmas is a delightful, contemporary romance collection that totally captures the magic of the season!

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Follow God's Will: Biblical Guidelines for Everyday Life by Brittany Ann

Follow God's Will: Biblical Guidelines for Everyday Life

ABOUT THE BOOK

Esther Press Presents Follow God’s Will by Brittany Ann

Where is God leading you next? In a conversation or your next decision? Don’t simply guess and hope you’re right. Let Follow God’s Will teach you how to confidently hear God’s voice, understand His Word, and determine His will for yourself.

Do you ever wonder, What would God want me to do in this situation?

Whether you're seeking God's will in the big decisions (where to move, what job to take...) or in the small decisions (how to respond to coworkers, family, or friends...), the Bible is FULL of wisdom, direction, and encouragement to help us find and follow God's Will for our lives.

Unfortunately, it's not always easy to know how the Bible's words -- written thousands of years ago -- should apply to our lives today.

Thankfully, this book will help.

With just the right mix of practical advice, in-depth Bible study, and real-life examples, Follow God’s Will will teach you how to confidently hear God’s voice, understand His Word, and determine His will for yourself. It provides the biblical framework needed to answer questions, including

  • How can I figure out God’s will for my life personally?
  • How should I understand the Bible’s words for today?
  • How can I live out my faith on a day-to-day basis?
  • How do I share the gospel without being weird or pushy?
  • How should I navigate relationships with non-Christians in love?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Following God's will can be a real challenge, for both new believers and mature Christians! In an easy and personable style, author Brittany Ann shares a valuable resource to help make this possible, and she makes it very clear that it really boils down to following the two Greatest Commandments: loving God and loving others. This new book has 12 chapters that are divided into two parts: Discover God's Will and Follow God's Will. These chapters cover a wide range of topics, among them The Two Greatest Commandments, Understanding God's Written Word, Witnessing with Truth and Love, and Cultivating a Faith-Filled Mindset. All 12 chapters are filled with personal experiences and an abundance of God's Word. I especially like that we can 'Dive Deeper into Scripture', use the suggested questions to help increase our understanding, and explore the Notes and Recommended Resources for even more inspiration.

Follow God's Will is truly a treasure chest of encouragement and motivation and I recommend it for Christians in all stages of their Christian walk.

I voluntarily accepted an ARC from the author via BlogAbout Blogger Network. There was no obligation for a positive review.

The Bookshop of Secrets by Mollie Rushmeyer

The Bookshop of Secrets
ABOUT THE BOOK

A collection of lost books holds the clues to her family's legacy…and her future.

Hope Sparrow has mastered the art of outrunning her tragic past, learning never to stay anywhere too long and never to allow anyone control over her life again. Coming to Wanishin Falls in search of her family's history already feels too risky. But somewhere in the towering stacks of this dusty old bookshop are the books that hold Hope's last ties to her late mother—and to a rumored family treasure that could help her start over.

Only, the bookshop is in shambles, and the elderly owner is in the beginning stages of dementia and can’t remember where the books lie. To find the last links to the loved ones she's lost, Hope must stay and accept help from the townsfolk to locate the treasured volumes. Each secret she uncovers brings her closer to understanding where she came from. But the longer she stays in the quaint town, the more people find their way into the cracks in her heart. And letting them in may be the greatest risk of all…

MY THOUGHTS.....

This book has everything that I love: true appreciation for the written word, a mystery needing to be solved, and realistic characters searching for acceptance and a place to belong. Hope Sparrow and Ronan Barrick may be strangers but they're both weary warriors who need hope and healing. Their initial goal is to find a treasure that was supposedly hidden by two of their ancestors, but I was rooting for them to find something much more valuable! Will they find the peace and sense of belonging that has eluded both of them in the past? Can the hurtful gossip that's plagued Ronan's family for years finally be put to rest in this seemingly ideal small town?

The Bookshop of Secrets is the debut novel of Mollie Rushmeyer and it's truly a treasure, with its amazing mix of literary references, Bible scripture, and inspiring thoughts. My own words can't do it justice and it deserves more than the five stars that I can give it. I look forward to reading more of Rushmeyer's work!

I received a digital copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Explosive Christmas Showdown (Crisis Rescue Team) by Darlene L. Turner

Explosive Christmas Showdown
ABOUT THE BOOK

A bomber brings terror to Christmas as the presents go tick…tick…boom.

With criminal investigative analyst Olive Wells at the center of a bomber’s dangerous game, she’ll do anything to catch the culprit—even work with her ex-fiancé and his K-9 detector dog. But with the Christmas rampage drawing ever closer, Zac Turner’s convinced the attacks are personal. Can they piece together their ties to the bomber…before another gift explodes?

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Memories that can't be forgotten, secrets that shouldn't be kept, and surprises that just keep coming. These are just a few of the things that make this book so riveting! Author Darlene L. Turner excels in writing romantic suspense and this may be her best effort. She made my heart race as Olly, Zac, and Ziva frantically try to discover the identity of the Jingle Bell Bomber. I couldn't decide who JB was but he's certainly one of the most devious villains ever, and I can assure you that I will be thinking of him when I hear Jingle Bells playing on the radio in the weeks ahead!

This is a book that definitely lives up to its title! Explosive Christmas Showdown is a terrifying, can't-put-it-down thriller that also has an inspiring faith message woven into its plot. Can we leave our past behind and truly forget and forgive? If you enjoy second chances, sweet romance, and never-ending suspense, you definitely want to read Explosive Christmas Showdown.

Abduction Cold Case by Connie Queen

Abduction Cold Case
ABOUT THE BOOK

An unsolved case. A family secret.

Getting to the truth could be deadly…

Finding a mysterious file on her desk sends psychologist Kennedy Wells chasing down clues to solve a twenty-six-year-old kidnapping—and straight into a violent assault. When Texas Ranger Silas Boone comes to Kennedy’s rescue, he can’t help but wonder at her resemblance to the long-missing girl. With someone willing to kill to end the investigation, can they uncover the truth…and live to see Christmas?

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Kennedy Well's life is changed forever when she's given clues to the kidnapping of Harper Barclay, a three-year-old girl who disappeared twenty-six years ago. Imagine her shock when the cold case evidence suggests that she is that little girl who had been taken from a park so many years ago. Kennedy's parents had never mentioned adoption so how could this be?

Abduction Cold Case is a compelling story that kept me turning the pages until I learned the true story behind this kidnapping. Non-stop danger and clever clues make this a book that I couldn't put down, but Kennedy's realistic emotions make it especially poignant. Were her adoptive parents aware of this kidnapping? How can she separate the truth from lies? Who is determined to keep her from learning the truth?

I'm a fan of suspense novels and Connie Queen has become one of my favorite authors. This is a book you don't want to miss!

Where the Blue Sky Begins by Katie Powner

Where the Blue Sky Begins
ABOUT THE BOOK

Sometimes the hardest road of all is the road home.

When confident and handsome Eric Larson is sent to a rural Montana town to work in the local branch of his uncle's financial company, he's determined to exceed everyone's expectations, earn a promotion, and be back in Seattle by the end of summer. Yet nothing could prepare him for the lessons this small town has in store.

At forty-six years old, eccentric and outspoken Eunice Parker has come to accept her terminal illness and has given herself one final goal: seek forgiveness from everyone on her bucket list before her time runs out. But it will take more courage than she can muster on her own.

After an accident pushes Eric and Eunice together, the unlikely pair is forced to spend more time with each other than either would like, which challenges their deepest prejudices and beliefs. As summer draws to a close, neither Eric nor Eunice is where they thought they would be, but they both wrestle with the same important question:
What matters most when the end is near?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Eric Larson is ready to leave Tukston, Montana as soon as he gets there! Who would want to stay in a place that's 'like Tombstone', a place where GPS won't work? What Erik doesn't count on are the life lessons that are about to come his way, via a next-door neighbor he can't quite figure out. Where the Blue Sky Begins shares the powerful and poignant story of Eunice Parker as she seeks forgiveness from the people she feels that she's wronged. Will she be able to cross all of the names off of her list before she succumbs to her terminal illness? As her condition worsens, it seems unlikely that she will succeed. Can she do it on her own, or will she need her new neighbor to help her with this journey?

Where the Blue Sky Begins is definitely a love story, but it isn't about romantic love. It's about two imperfect people, totally different, who create a special bond that changes both of their lives forever. I was totally captivated by this unlikely friendship. Eric is somewhat shallow when he first arrives in Tukston but Eunice's deep faith changes him for the better.

Author Katie Powner made me smile, laugh, and cry, and she kept me totally engaged in this touching and thought-provoking story that has a plot twist that I didn't see coming! I highly recommend this book to all who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction.

A Model of Devotion (The Lumber Baron's Daughters #3) by Mary Connealy

A Model of Devotion (The Lumber Baron's Daughters #3)
ABOUT THE BOOK

A brilliant engineer, Jilly Stiles has been educated since childhood to help run her father's dynasty. Now with the company safe after the marriages of her two sisters, Jilly can focus on her dream of building a mountaintop railroad--and never marry.

Nick Ryder came into Jilly's life when he saved her mother from her no-good stepfather, and he's prepared to protect Jilly from anything that threatens to harm her. Haunted by the pain of his own past, Nick is determined not to get his heart involved while protecting Jilly from losing her hard-won independence.

But when a cruel and powerful man goes to dangerous lengths to make Jilly his own, marrying Nick may be the only way to save herself and her dreams.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This book is a fantastic way to wrap up The Lumber Baron's Daughters series! The Stiles sisters and their mother finally get a resolution for a major problem, and we're given a glimpse of Jilly's secret dilemma that's remained a mystery since book one. Jilly takes center stage as she encounters major hurdles while trying to build a railroad. Nick Ryder, in true Mary Connealy fashion, proves to be the best kind of hero. He's willing to help and protect Jilly but he also knows when to let her have her say!! Nick's been a part of this series from the beginning, and I love that he finally gets this chance to shine!

I truly enjoy Connealy's books. She makes me laugh out loud and she shares beautiful gems of inspiration, but she doesn't overlook the romance! Swoon-worthy, clean romance that convinces us that a happy ending is possible! Add the western settings that I've always loved and realistic characters that are good, bad, or a little of both, and I'm kept fully engaged! Connealy's a master in writing wonderful historical Christian novels and A Model of Devotion is a perfect example!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review, and I am voluntarily sharing my thoughts.

Good News! It's Creation! by Glenys Nellist

ABOUT THE BOOK

You’re never too young to learn about your Creator and the beauty of creation. Wonder and delight fill every page as best-selling author Glenys Nellist shares God's amazing work of creation with little ones. With fun, biblically sound teaching, kids will learn through Lizzie Walkley's warm and vibrant style that everything God made, from the sun and moon to Adam and Eve, rejoices in God's design.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Author Glenys Nellist has another winner! This enchanting new book shares the story of God's Creation and it's the perfect way to teach small children about this miraculous event. The rhyming text is both fun and educational, and children will absolutely love the beautiful illustrations of the moons, stars, plants, animals, and of course, Adam and Eve. The final pages show all of His creations and the words that He uttered at the end of the sixth day. "Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was good!" Genesis 1:31

Good News! It's Creation! is a sturdy board book that targets toddlers, but I can see it being used by Sunday school teachers when they teach their students the Creation story. Parents and grandparents, grab a copy so that your little ones can learn of God's love for all that He made!

I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

GOOD NEWS!
cheer the creatures.
leaping in the air.
"We'll fill the earth with noises
and colors everywhere!"

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I'm an author of thirty+ books for children, including the best-selling Twas the Evening of Christmas, I Wonder: Exploring God's Grand Story, The Wonder That is You, and five popular series: Love Letters from God, Snuggle Time, Little Mole, Twas and Good News.

Here's my little story...

Although I live in Michigan, USA, I was born and raised in a little village in northern England. Four long decades later, I would find myself living across the pond, married to a wonderful man, mum to four adult children and three daughters-in-law, and grandma to three bouncing boys and one gorgeous girl. And as if all that wasn’t blessing enough, I somehow became an author, despite giving up on my first book halfway through.

And if you would have told me then, that this book would one day become a series, that I would begin a second series, and a third… I never would have believed you. The only possible explanation is that our great God is able to do immeasurably more than all I could ever ask or possibly imagine.
