One More Time for Joy (Paradise Valley, #3) by Amy Lillard

One More Time for Joy (Paradise Valley, #3)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Joy Lehman has pressed on faithfully since losing her husband, raising their children and running a thriving bakery alone. Even caring for her oldest son, Johnny—seriously injured after a fall—has not shaken her fierce independence. Johnny will walk again, she’s sure. Until then, a meeting of the Widows’ Club at her home makes it clear that Joy must consider some costly renovations. Her brother-in-law, Uriah, is happy to provide the lumber and the labor—if Joy will accept his help.

Uriah understands family challenges—he’s a widower himself, and father to four daughters. Yet he can see that Joy’s struggle lies deeper than house repairs, in learning to accept an altered future for her son. As Uriah’s daughters begin helping in the bakery, and Joy and Uriah’s bond grows deeper, a new possibility glows bright—the unexpected happiness that lies in embracing one strong, united family, filled with support and love .
. .

MY THOUGHTS.....

Joy Lehman has known the joy of finding someone that you want to spend your entire life with, but she's also experienced the pain and grief of losing that person to death. She's managed to endure, she has a successful bakery, and she's providing for her children. There are, however, many challenges associated with keeping a household and caring for a disabled son. Would she be willing to accept help from her widowed brother-in-law? Could she give up being an independent woman?

Author Amy Lillard poignantly captures the conflicting emotions of both Joy and Uriah as they enter this new phase in their lives. They could have happiness together if she'd only bend a little! Why, even their children think it's a good idea and there are lots of fun moments as they work to get their parents together.

As I read this book, I remembered the Sammy Cahn classic song that talks about finding love the second time around. Even now, as I write this review, I find myself humming the tune and singing the words. This is a heartwarming story of mature love, second chances, and the joy that comes from allowing God's Plan to work in our lives. One More Time for Joy is delightful Amish fiction!

I received an advanced reader copy from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

The Traitor's Post by Donnah M. Cole

The Traitor's Post
ABOUT THE BOOK

Self doubt torments Raisa Murray on a frequent basis. Life's not easy rearing her 7-year-old daughter alone and managing a sheep farm in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Any hope for a better mindset and a lighter load dissipates when a former love reappears in Catawba Vale. How will she ever face him knowing the secret she has harbored?

Jase Hampton, falsely accused and wrongfully convicted of taking another's life, receives the shocking news of his exoneration along with the discovery of betrayal by a childhood friend. Determined to vindicate himself, he returns home only to discover deception comes in many forms. Hardened and embittered, will he find a way to forgive others before his life spirals out of control?

MY THOUGHTS.....

It's been said that everyone deserves a second chance. Are we willing to grant it, or do we allow old hurts to color our perception? Do we give secrets a stronghold over truth? These are some of the intriguing questions that are woven into the plot of The Traitor's Post, a powerful new story by Donnah M. Cole. Jase Hampton lost seven years of his life because of a wrongful accusation. How will he be accepted when he returns to his hometown, and how will his homecoming affect the young woman that he left behind?

Cole shares a thought-provoking look at forgiveness and redemption as she relates Jase and Raisa's poignant attempts to create a new relationship. Her story has an abundance of Bible scripture and a powerful reminder that God's grace is available to all who are willing to accept it. I couldn't stop reading this emotional Christian romance but be prepared for its surprising ending!

I received a digital copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Her Alaskan Return (Serenity Peak, #1) by Belle Calhoune

Her Alaskan Return
ABOUT THE BOOK

To truly come home, she must face the reason she left…

Moving back to her Alaskan hometown was an easy decision for soon-to-be-single mom Autumn Hines. It’s the perfect place to raise her baby. When her path crosses that of her old flame, widowed fisherman Judah Campbell, new sparks are ignited. There’s just one thing standing in their way: Autumn has a secret. Revealing it could set them free, but can she find the courage to speak the truth?

From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness, and hope.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Serenity Peak. Just saying it out loud suggests that this is a place of peace and contentment but will this be the case when Judah Campbell finds out that Autumn Hines is back in town? Autumn, the girl who left him hurt, bewildered, and heartbroken has returned after leaving town so many years ago, and Judah experiences feelings that he thought were long dead!

A beautiful setting, great characters, and an intriguing plot make Her Alaskan Return another winning effort by Belle Calhoune! Autumn and Judah have both loved others and they've both faced loss, but God's plans are often surprising, aren't they? They are also best if we just trust and believe!

Her Alaskan Return is a lovely story of secrets, second chances, forgiveness, and acceptance. Calhoune certainly knows how to pull our heartstrings and she's made me eager to return to Serenity Peak, Alaska! I recommend this book to all who enjoy romantic Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

A Brighter Dawn (Amish Memories #1) by Gould

A Brighter Dawn (Amish Memories #1)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Ivy Zimmerman is successfully navigating her life as a young Mennonite woman, one generation removed from her parents' Old Order Amish upbringing. But when her parents are killed in a tragic accident, Ivy's way of life is upended. As she deals with her grief, her younger sisters' needs, the relationship with her boyfriend, and her Dawdi and Mammi's strict rules, Ivy finds solace in both an upcoming trip to Germany for an international Mennonite youth gathering and in her great-great-aunt's story about Clare Simons, another young woman who visited Germany in the late 1930s.

As Ivy grows suspicious that her parents' deaths weren't, in fact, an accident, she gains courage from what she learns of Clare's time in pre-World War II Germany. With the encouragement and inspiration of the women who have gone before her, Ivy seeks justice for her parents, her sisters, and herself.

"Incredibly well-researched, thoroughly enjoyable, and singularly original." --SHELLEY SHEPARD GRAY, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author

"A beautiful story of love, loss, and the bonds that connect a family to its faith." --SUZANNE WOODS FISHER, bestselling author of A Season on the Wind

MY THOUGHTS.....

I absolutely loved this dual-time plot that alternates between 1937 and 2014! The two stories revolve around members of an Amish/Mennonite family, with one primarily set in Germany and the other in Pennsylvania and Oregon. The contemporary story relates Ivy Zimmerman's efforts to accept the car accident that took her parents' lives. Her younger sister was driving the car and many believe that Brenna's lack of driving experience was the cause. Is this the case or are there more sinister circumstances involved?

As Ivy works through her questions and grief, she learns of the struggles of her ancestor, Clare Simons. Clare's visit to Germany in 1937 began an inspiring journey of danger, faith, and perseverance as she worked to protect two children from the evil that was present during the days leading up to WWII. Author Leslie Gould gives readers a powerful history lesson about the persecution of the Anabaptists during the 1930s/1940s. I was both surprised and horrified by some of the true facts that are woven into Clare's story!

I love history so I was totally absorbed in Clare's story but I also enjoyed the mystery surrounding Ivy's search for truth. I highly recommend A Brighter Dawn to fans of dual-time stories and Amish fiction! It's a book to read, savor, and read again!

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Bethany House through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.

On the Golden Cliffs (Big Sky Amish #2) by Tricia Goyer & Christen Krumm

On the Golden Cliffs (Big Sky Amish #2)
ABOUT THE BOOK

One wrong post has sent influencer Lyla Taylor’s social media empire crashing to her feet. To save it, she’ll have to escape to rural Montana. Six weeks in a high-end spa won’t hurt…except, she’s not booked into a spa, but at a rustic Amish B&B. Suddenly, her roommates are racoons, and her daily activities include hanging laundry. Thanks, but no thanks. Lyla is ready to hit delete and head back to civilization.

Amishman Reuben Milner has a secret…one that could destroy his world. For now, however, he’s kept his life as a novelist under wraps, focusing on providing for his family after the tragic passing of his father. Renting the dawdi house seems the right move—until the wrong woman moves in. However, she comes with ideas to help improve their B&B, and that, along with her feisty personality, is something Reuben can’t ignore. Even if the elders want him to focus on joining the church and finding a wife.

When going home isn’t an option, Lyla decides to help the Milners spruce up their rental. It does help distract her from her problems online. The more Lyla works on the rental with Reuben, the more she wonders if returning to her former life is worth it. However, is it the simple life that Lyla's heart longs for—or a particular guarded Amishman with secrets of his own?

And when those secrets are discovered, what will it cost them both?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Who wouldn't love a vacation in Montana? Lyla Taylor immediately thinks of a beautiful mountain spa and the time to relax, refresh, and unwind. Boy, is she in for a rude awakening! She ends up at an Amish bed and breakfast with limited cell phone service and none of the amenities that she's always been used to. This city gal is ready to go home!

On the Golden Cliffs isn't your normal Amish novel. Yes, Reuben Milner is Amish but he's also a 'wanna-be author' who's been secretly writing a book for the past two years! Will he ever be a published author? Would this even be accepted by his Amish community?

Christen Krumm and Tricia Goyer share a story that illustrates the importance of faith, family, and the ability to adapt but there's also lots of fun along the way! I enjoyed Lyla and Reuben's journey to friendship, but will their budding romance be hindered by their differences? I highly recommend On the Golden Cliffs, and I can't wait to read the third book in the Big Sky Amish Series!

I received a digital ARC of this book from Sunrise Publishing. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Yosemite Firestorm by Tanya Stowe

Yosemite Firestorm
ABOUT THE BOOK

A raging forest fire isn’t the only threat…

When an act of arson claims the life of a hiker, Yosemite Park Ranger Livy Chatham is the only witness—putting her right into the path of determined criminals. Only rock climber Hayden Bryant can protect her from the killers destroying all evidence of their crimes. But can Livy and Hayden outrun the danger that’s as hot on their heels as the fires blazing through Yosemite?

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

MY THOUGHTS....

This exciting page-turner is strongly influenced by three Fs: fire, fear, and faith. Forest ranger Livy Chatham and rock climber Hayden Bryant find themselves in a terrifying race to escape a forest fire that is raging through Yosemite National Park. If this fire was started deliberately, then what was the motive? Worse still, is the responsible party now trying to harm Livy?

Author Tanya Stowe vividly captures the physical and emotional traumas that are experienced by Livy and Hayden. I could visualize the flames eating up the terrain, hear the overwhelming roar of the winds, and smell the smoke that threatened to overtake their lungs! I wasn't familiar with the term fire tornado but Stowe's words helped me imagine just how terrifying it would be! Even as she weakens physically, Livy still possesses amazing strength! Her positive nature and her strong Christian witness eventually convince Hayden that God's love and mercy are available to him also. No matter what happens, God will be with them! Stowe weaves this inspiring faith thread into her thrilling plot and the results are pure enjoyment! Yosemite Firestorm is a wonderful romantic suspense novel,

MY THOUGHTS.....

This book tells the events that occurred during Holy Week and the days following it, and it's another example of this author's ability to share God's Word in a way that children can understand. Glenys Nellist uses captivating poems and appropriate scripture to highlight the events that begin with Palm Sunday, and there are two little bunnies who get to witness the events that are such an important part of Easter and Holy Week. These bunnies are perfect attention grabbers for the little ones who try to find them among the colorful illustrations that depict Jesus and his followers engaged in foot washing, the Last Supper, and the breakfast on the beach following His Resurrection

Snuggle Time Easter Stories is another fantastic book from Nellist! She has a fervent desire to make sure that children are aware of God's love for them and she's been blessed with the amazing talent to make this happen! I'm always proud to give her books to my granddaughter and this book is certainly one of them! ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I'm an author of thirty+ books for children, including the best-selling Twas the Evening of Christmas, I Wonder: Exploring God's Grand Story, The Wonder That is You, and five popular series: Love Letters from God, Snuggle Time, Little Mole, Twas and Good News.

Here's my little story...

Although I live in Michigan, USA, I was born and raised in a little village in northern England. Four long decades later, I would find myself living across the pond, married to a wonderful man, mum to four adult children and three daughters-in-law, and grandma to three bouncing boys and one gorgeous girl. And as if all that wasn’t blessing enough, I somehow became an author, despite giving up on my first book halfway through.

And if you would have told me then, that this book would one day become a series, that I would begin a second series, and a third… I never would have believed you. The only possible explanation is that our great God is able to do immeasurably more than all I could ever ask or possibly imagine.

Ladybug Landing (Miller's Creek #4) by Mindy Steele

Ladybug Landing (Millers Creek #4)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Nelly Raber placed an ad in The Budget hoping to help the widows and fatherless children of Miller’s Creek. That was two years ago, and she has yet to live down the impulsive act that has become a yoke around her neck. Despite her unmarried status, Nelly’s mother is determined to find her a husband, even if she has to enlist the local matchmaker for help.

Levi Milford has worked hard for the future he has planned, but everything has gone wrong. Turning to a friend who seems to be having more trouble than him, Levi realizes why it’s always best to put our futures in God’s hands.

As summer looms to an end, one heart will be put to the test, while another might find her best match yet.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This heartwarming book is a perfect addition to the Miller's Creek series. From the very first book we've seen the folks of Miller's Creek deal with tragedy, pain, and loss, but through it all, they've managed to endure because of their faith. Mistakes have paved the way for successes and heartaches have made the happy moments even sweeter! Memorable characters have been the backbone of this series and in this story, I was finally shown the reasons behind the actions of Nelly Raber! I admit that there have been times when I was exasperated with her but this book provides a deeper glimpse into her family life. At last, I knew why she needed and deserved that 'happily ever after'. I also loved that one of my favorites was given her greatest challenge ever! Would matchmaker Hazel Miller succeed in her latest endeavor?

Ladybug Landing
is filled with a cornucopia of emotions, including sadness and confusion but there are also moments of laugh-out-loud fun, take-your-breath-away romance, and overwhelming joy. Author Mindy Steele understands the people that she writes about and she's quickly becoming an important voice in Amish fiction!

I received an ARC from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.
