MY THOUGHTS.....

This book tells the events that occurred during Holy Week and the days following it, and it's another example of this author's ability to share God's Word in a way that children can understand. Glenys Nellist uses captivating poems and appropriate scripture to highlight the events that begin with Palm Sunday, and there are two little bunnies who get to witness the events that are such an important part of Easter and Holy Week. These bunnies are perfect attention grabbers for the little ones who try to find them among the colorful illustrations that depict Jesus and his followers engaged in foot washing, the Last Supper, and the breakfast on the beach following His Resurrection

Snuggle Time Easter Stories is another fantastic book from Nellist! She has a fervent desire to make sure that children are aware of God's love for them and she's been blessed with the amazing talent to make this happen! I'm always proud to give her books to my granddaughter and this book is certainly one of them! It's a wonderful way to share the true meaning of the Easter season with children, and it would be a perfect addition to a child's Easter basket. It would also be great for a church library!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I'm an author of thirty+ books for children, including the best-selling Twas the Evening of Christmas, I Wonder: Exploring God's Grand Story, The Wonder That is You, and five popular series: Love Letters from God, Snuggle Time, Little Mole, Twas and Good News.

Here's my little story...

Although I live in Michigan, USA, I was born and raised in a little village in northern England. Four long decades later, I would find myself living across the pond, married to a wonderful man, mum to four adult children and three daughters-in-law, and grandma to three bouncing boys and one gorgeous girl. And as if all that wasn’t blessing enough, I somehow became an author, despite giving up on my first book halfway through.

And if you would have told me then, that this book would one day become a series, that I would begin a second series, and a third… I never would have believed you. The only possible explanation is that our great God is able to do immeasurably more than all I could ever ask or possibly imagine.

Ladybug Landing (Miller's Creek #4) by Mindy Steele

Ladybug Landing (Millers Creek #4)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Nelly Raber placed an ad in The Budget hoping to help the widows and fatherless children of Miller’s Creek. That was two years ago, and she has yet to live down the impulsive act that has become a yoke around her neck. Despite her unmarried status, Nelly’s mother is determined to find her a husband, even if she has to enlist the local matchmaker for help.

Levi Milford has worked hard for the future he has planned, but everything has gone wrong. Turning to a friend who seems to be having more trouble than him, Levi realizes why it’s always best to put our futures in God’s hands.

As summer looms to an end, one heart will be put to the test, while another might find her best match yet.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This heartwarming book is a perfect addition to the Miller's Creek series. From the very first book we've seen the folks of Miller's Creek deal with tragedy, pain, and loss, but through it all, they've managed to endure because of their faith. Mistakes have paved the way for successes and heartaches have made the happy moments even sweeter! Memorable characters have been the backbone of this series and in this story, I was finally shown the reasons behind the actions of Nelly Raber! I admit that there have been times when I was exasperated with her but this book provides a deeper glimpse into her family life. At last, I knew why she needed and deserved that 'happily ever after'. I also loved that one of my favorites was given her greatest challenge ever! Would matchmaker Hazel Miller succeed in her latest endeavor?

Ladybug Landing
is filled with a cornucopia of emotions, including sadness and confusion but there are also moments of laugh-out-loud fun, take-your-breath-away romance, and overwhelming joy. Author Mindy Steele understands the people that she writes about and she's quickly becoming an important voice in Amish fiction!

Category:  Adult Fiction (18 +)
Genre:  Mystery
Publisher:  Acorn Book Services
Release date:   Feb 22, 2023
Content Rating:  PG-13 (Lauren Carr's books are murder mysteries, so there are murders involved. Occasionally, a murder will happen on stage. There is sexual content, but always behind closed doors. Some mild swearing (a hell or a damn few and far between). No F-bombs!

"Carr is a master at creating unique, complex plots and colorful characters, both evident in her latest cold case mystery featuring  Chris Matheson and the geezer squad. The plot is twisted, the mystery unique and the ending a surprise. A must-read!" - Review of CHRIS CROSSED MURDER (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery, Book Four) by Marilyn R. Wilson, Author, Speaker, Book Reviewer

"Lauren Carr is among my favorite mystery writers. She knows how to write a fun tale while keeping readers engaged. ...I would give Chris Crossed Murder one hundred stars if I could. I believe readers who enjoy reading well-written and clean cozy mysteries will most definitely want to read it. I have no doubt they will enjoy it as much as I did. The fifth installment from A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series is on my radar for when it releases." - Review of CHRIS CROSSED MURDER (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery, Book Four) by Amy Campbell, Locks Hooks and Books

MY THOUGHTS.....
This is what a mystery novel is supposed to be! There are clues galore, a main character who appears to have met his fate, and an intriguing group called the "Geezer Squad". Believe me, the members are anything but geezers and they're more than willing to help solve the mystery involving their friend Chris. Chris Crossed Murder is the fourth book in the Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series and I found myself turning the pages as fast as I could. There's a John Doe, and how is he connected to an unsolved murder that occurred nine years ago? The questions are many, the action is non-stop, and the characters are truly memorable! Do yourself a favor and grab a copy of this book. Better yet, schedule time for a reading marathon for all four of these cold case mysteries by a very talented author!

Author Interview with Lauren Carr

-What book got you interested in reading?

This sounds terrible, but it was the Bobbsey Twins. That is the first real book that I remember reading. My mother would take me to the library every Friday and I read every Bobbsey Twin mystery they had. From there, I moved on to Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys.

-Do you have a favorite genre to read?

Murder Mysteries. It’s awful to say, but if the book doesn’t have a dead body, I’m not interested.

-Is there a book you have read more than one time?

Several. I can’t think of any right off hand. Many of Agatha Christie’s mysteries I have read more than once. I read first time for enjoyment. And then, read again to study her technique in unfolding the mystery for the reader. Same goes for Earl Stanley Gardner.

-What got you interested in writing?

My imagination. My mother and I shared a love for murder mysteries. She would read Perry Mason to me at bed time. As a child reading the mild Bobbsey Twin mysteries, I would “rewrite” the mystery in my mind—changing the missing sea shell into a kidnapping story. Later, I read a string of murder mysteries that just didn’t satisfy me. So, I decided to write my own mysteries. Still, today, I write mysteries that I myself would want to read.

-Was there a book of yours that was difficult to write? Which one was it and what made it so difficult?

Each book has its own unique challenges. I don’t write from a formula. Therefore, I purposely challenge myself with each book and try new things. That keeps my mysteries fresh for my readers.

I would have to say the most difficult book for me to write was Shadow of Murder. This was my twenty-nineth novel, the latest installment in the Mac Faraday Mystery series.

As a writer, I challenge myself to always try new things. With Shadow of Murder, I branched into including a paranormal element, which meant a lot of research into areas that I had never gone before. Some of my readers liked it. Others did not. Do I regret branching into that area. No, because my readers deserve more than the same old plotlines. Besides, trying new things is the best way to stay young.

Thank you. Lauren, for answering these questions today!

The Maid of Ballymacool by Jennifer Deibel

The Maid of Ballymacool
ABOUT THE BOOK

Brianna Kelly was abandoned at Ballymacool House and Boarding School as an infant. She has worked there since she was a wee girl and will likely die there. Despite a sense that she was made for something more, Brianna feels powerless to change her situation, so she consoles herself by exploring the Ballymacool grounds, looking for hidden treasures to add to the secret trove beneath the floorboards of her room.

When Michael Wray, the son of local gentry, is sent to Ballymacool to deal with his unruly cousin, he finds himself drawn to Brianna, immediately and inescapably. There is something about her that feels so . . . familiar. When Brianna finds a piece of silver in the woods, she commits to learning its origins, with the help of Michael. What they discover may change everything.

Fan favorite Jennifer Deibel invites you back to the Emerald Isle in the 1930s for this fresh take on the Cinderella story, complete with a tantalizing mystery, a budding romance, and a chance at redemption.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Oh, how I loved this story! It's set in a place I've always wanted to visit and it reminded me of one of my favorite fairy tales! Brianna Kelly was a house servant, and I do mean servant, and her treatment was just as harsh as the treatment that Cinderella was given! Orphaned as a baby, she didn't know her true identity or why she was so disliked by the Headmistress at the Ballymacool House and Boarding school. Did this make her hateful and bitter? No, she may have long been searching for answers, but Brianna still managed to find happiness by slipping away to the woods or visiting a beloved older friend.

Author Jennifer Deibel shares a fascinating tale that is set on the Emerald Isle during the 1930s. Her descriptive powers helped me visualize the County Donegal, the Irish dialect was music to my ears, and I enjoyed the historical details that were woven into her plot. I also loved the well-developed characters who played such an important part in Brianna's search for answers. And then there's the romance! Who wouldn't love Michael Wray and the unexplained attachment that he feels for someone he hasn't met before? Or has he?

This captivating story kept me turning the pages to unravel the clues and discover the secrets. Brianna's moments of sadness and defeat are buffered by hope, forgiveness, and the lovely faith message woven into the romance and suspense. Well done, Ms. Deibel, I thoroughly enjoyed The Maid of Ballymacool!

'The familiar sensation of being watched swept over Sawyer Blackwood as he set fresh roses on the pedestal of the tombstone for his twin sister, Paisley.'

This is the second book in the Honor Protection Specialists series and author Elizabeth Goddard takes readers on another heart-pounding ride riddled with action and danger! Confessions to a Stranger (Harbored in Crow’s Nest #1) by Danielle Grandinetti

Confessions to a Stranger (Harbored in Crow’s Nest #1)ABOUT THE BOOK

She’s lost her future. He’s sacrificed his. Now they have a chance to reclaim it—together.

Wisconsin, 1930—While fleeing for her life, Adaleigh Sirland’s rescue of a child introduces her to a family who provides her safe harbor. When her identity comes under threat of exposure, she must choose between running once more or helping the man who teaches her to hope again.

First mate David Martins is intrigued by the mysterious woman taken in by his grandmother, but she wrestles with a troubled past. When his estranged father is arrested for murder, can David put aside his own struggles in time to discern which secret threatens Adaleigh before it kills them both?

Welcome to Crow’s Nest, where danger and romance meet at the water’s edge.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Confessions to a Stranger begins with an exciting rescue scene that poses an intriguing question. Why is Adaleigh Sirland so hesitant to allow people to see that she's saved a young boy's life? What follows is a compelling story of a young woman's efforts to keep her identity unknown and a local fisherman who has his own secrets to hide. Will these two strangers be able to confide in each other the things that they keep hidden from others? Can David Martins protect this mystery woman from the people who are so eager to find her?

This story is set in a small Wisconsin village during the 1930s so there are many mentions of the fishing industry that sustained Crow's Nest during that time. Grandinetti's characters are appealing, the mystery and suspense kept me fully engaged, and there's also an inspiring faith element woven into the plot. This is the first book of a new series, so I am looking forward to returning to Crow's Nest, Wisconsin. I recommend Confessions to a Stranger to all who enjoy historical romantic suspense.

I received a digital copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

Wherever You Are by Glenys Nellist

Wherever You Are
ABOUT THE BOOK

Wherever you are, God is there.

God is in the gently falling snow, the river, and the honeybee. God is in the people you meet. God is in city streets and country lanes. God is in laughter and tears. No matter where you go, how you are feeling, or what you do, God is with you.

This gentle, reassuring picture book by bestselling author Glenys Nellist and illustrator Sian James encourages children to notice God all around them, in the ordinary people and places of everyday life.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Wherever You Are is a beautiful children's book in every way! It has gorgeous illustrations, easy-to-understand text, a rhyming cadence that children find so appealing, and an inspiring message about God's love. I loved that the illustrations show diversity and the text appeals to different stages of reading ability: children who need to be read to and older children who read for themselves.

Author Glenys Nellist shares that God is always with us, in each and every circumstance. Wherever we are...God is always there. In simple activities, and in everyday moments, He is with us. She also reminds us that "God is in the tears, in the sadness, in the pain. God is in the laughter, and the hope that comes again." These words can certainly apply to older readers! How comforting would these words be to parents who've said an earthly goodbye to their child? For an older adult who's just lost a spouse?

I recently read that you know that a book is good for children when it's also enjoyed by adults. This book is a perfect example! It's for all ages and it's a book that I will love sharing with my granddaughter! I recommend 'Wherever You Are' for families, for church libraries, and for gift-giving, also.

I received a copy of this book from the author and publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
