About Me I am a retired librarian and I now support books and authors through my reviews.

I have always loved to read and I was able to share that love through my work as a public librarian for 22 1/2 years. I now promote literacy by reading, and then writing reviews. I love to support authors by sharing my reviews with others!

So Long, Normal: Living and Loving the Free Fall of Faith by Laura Story: Review & Giveaway

So Long, Normal: Living and Loving the Free Fall of FaithABOUT THE BOOK

Bible teacher Laura Story gets what it’s like to have plans altered and to surrender perceived security when faced with circumstances beyond our control. But she also understands the blessing of having a Father who loves you enough to take off the training wheels and place his beloved children in the best possible scenario for good and growth.

Building on Laura’s previous two titles, When God Doesn’t Fix It and I Give Up, So Long, Normal guides us to leave behind the idols of comfort, caution, and routine so we can live strong and well, even when life takes an unwelcome turn.

She says, “Jesus doesn’t just save us from hell in the next life; He saves us from our addiction to ‘normal’ lives this side of eternity. Our preference for cautious, ordinary lives is really rooted in a lack of faith and a failure to understand how much better His plan is than ours.”

In her confessional, conversational style, Laura weaves her own personal stories with examples from Scripture of characters whose lives were upended by unexpected (and undesired) change. Leaving, loving, or losing our “normal” is not the end of the world but the beginning of a new adventure with God who will change us forever.

MY THOUGHTS.....

"When things get back to normal."
How many times, in the past eighteen months, have you heard people say this? I know that I myself have said it far too many times to count! In this new book, So Long, Normal, we are encouraged to turn away from what we've known and to say goodbye to our normal. Author Laura Story offers compelling reasons why we should let go of our safe, ordinary lives and venture into a new, unknown adventure, and she promises that God will be with us all the way! So Long, Normal: Living and Loving the Free Fall of Faith is divided into three parts: Understanding Normal, Saying So Long, and Saying Hello; and she uses scripture, personal thoughts, and the stories of other inspiring people to convince us. I especially like that the book concludes with a list of questions that prompt us to dig a little deeper. It's Your Turn inspires us to 'say so long to normal and hello to God's glorious unknown.'

'If we can believe that God is writing a greater story, we may be able to move ahead without definitive answers.'

Laura Story is famous for composing songs that strengthen and encourage, and this book is certainly no different. Reading it is like talking to a friend, so grab a cup of coffee or a glass of iced tea, make yourself comfortable in your favorite reading spot, and prepare to be inspired, enlightened, and challenged! You may decide that normal isn't what you want after all!

I received a copy of this book from the author via FrontGate Media. There was absolutely no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
