Counterfeit Love by Crystal Caudill: Review & Giveaway with I Read With Audra Blog Tour

Enter to win at the end of this post!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Can this undercover agent save the woman he loves--or is her heart as counterfeit as the money he's been sent to track down?

After all that Grandfather has sacrificed to raise her, Theresa Plane owes it to him to save the family name--and that means clearing their debt with creditors before she marries Edward Greystone. But when one of the creditors' threats leads her to stumble across a midnight meeting, she discovers that the money he owes isn't all Grandfather was hiding. And the secrets he kept have now trapped Theresa in a life-threatening fight for her home--and the truth.

After months of undercover work, Secret Service operative Broderick Cosgrove is finally about to uncover the identity of the leader of a notorious counterfeiting ring. That moment of triumph turns to horror, however, when he finds undeniable proof that his former fiance is connected. Can he really believe the woman he loved is a willing participant? Protecting Theresa and proving her innocence may destroy his career--but that's better than failing her twice in one lifetime.

They must form a partnership, tentative though it is. But there's no question they're both still keeping secrets--and that lack of trust, along with the dangerous criminals out for their blood, threatens their hearts, their faith, and their very survival.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This debut novel by Crystal Caudill has everything that I love in a book. Historical facts woven into fiction, intrigue to feed my love for mystery, romance that makes my heart happy, and a strong faith message to nourish my soul! It also has wonderful multi-dimensional characters, both primary and secondary, that seem to leap off the pages. I also loved the history that is packed into Theresa, Broderick, and Colonel Plane's story! Did you know that the Secret Service began during the Civil War, and its initial purpose was to stop the counterfeiting of money that had become so rampant?

Counterfeit Love is set in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the events that take place occur in less than a five-month period in 1843-1844. A short time to most, but Theresa Plane's life is changed forever in those five months. She discovers hurtful truths about someone she loves dearly, and she also learns that love can be deceiving. When her life is put in danger, will she be willing to accept the help of someone who once hurt her deeply? Can she learn to trust and forgive? Will she recognize that counterfeit love may be appealing, but true, abiding love is the prize?

If you're longing for a captivating story that keeps you turning the pages, this is the book for you! Counterfeit Love is a fantastic debut novel, and I can't wait to read more of this author's writing. Crystal Caudill, you've "got a fan in me!"

The Sugarcreek Surprise (Creektown Discoveries #2) by Wanda E. Brunstetter: My Review plus Q&A with Author

The Sugarcreek Surprise
ABOUT THE BOOK

Antique Store Owners Offer Romance Advice to a Smitten Carpenter

Welcome to Sugarcreek, Ohio, where the Amish schoolteacher has a determined admirer. Tragically losing her parents as a child, Lisa Miller has grown up being afraid of loving and losing. She dedicates herself to teaching at an Amish schoolhouse and helping the grandparents who raised her, all the while avoiding the advances of newcomer Paul Herchberger. Paul enjoys antiques and meets Orley Troyer while looking for unique old milk bottles at yard sales. Orley and his wife offer prayers and advice as Paul tries to reach Lisa’s closed heart. But when secrets are revealed, will Lisa use them as an excuse to close herself off again?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Once again, Wanda E. Brunstetter provides another chance to slip away from our everyday 'English' lives to experience a simpler style of living. The Sugarcreek Surprise takes us back to Sugarcreek, Ohio, and offers a reunion with Orley and Lois Troyer, the owners of an antique store in Sugarcreek. It also introduces us to two people who both have difficulties with relationships. Lisa Miller is afraid to get too close to anyone because she's lost so many of the people she's loved, and she also suffers from memory loss because of those painful losses. Paul Herschberger suffered rejection from someone he thought he could love, and he's vowed never to let himself be hurt again. Can Orley and Lois work their magic and help these two wounded people? Better yet, is there a chance that Lisa and Paul might be able to help each other?

Brunstetter has such a unique talent for writing thought-provoking stories and creating characters that we all want to know. Orley and Lois are wonderful mentors, and the guidance that they share is advice that we all can use. Advice grounded in life experiences and built on a tremendous faith in God. This is a very compelling story, because the tragedy, loneliness, and rejection that are experienced by Lisa and Paul are issues that affect people every day. Being reminded that we need to place our total trust in God is excellent advice that we all can use! The Sugarcreek Surprise is wonderful Amish fiction, and I'm hoping that there will be more books in the Creektown Discoveries series.

I received a copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review and these are my own thoughts.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Q&A WITH WANDA E. BRUNSTETTER

Here are a few questions that Wanda Brunstetter answered in a FB Chat on March 3, 2022. I want to thank her for allowing me to share them with you, along with some beautiful photographs taken by her husband, Richard Brunstetter. Learn more about his work by visiting HERE

What made you decide to write Amish stories?

I have had an interest in the Amish for many years, even before I began writing. When I met an Amish family in Lancaster County, PA, via one of our Mennonite friends, I knew I needed to write about the Plain people.

Are able to speak or understand the Pennsylvania Dutch language the Amish speak?

I know a few Amish words, which I sprinkle throughout my novels, but I’m not able to speak the Pennsylvania-Dutch language fluently or enough to carry on a conversation.

How did you get your connections with your Amish friends in the communities you visit?

I make new Amish friends in every community I visit. Many of them know who I am and will approach me to strike up a conversation. Some are introduced to me through other Amish or English people who I already know.

Do you have close friends, or do you know families in every single Amish community you visit?

Yes, and I keep in touch with my Amish friends as often as possible, through phone calls, letters, and personal visits.

We have visited Amish communities in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, Illinois, Tennessee, Kentucky, Montana and Florida.

What is something that surprised you about being an author, and what are some of the difficult things about being an author?

I’ve been surprised about many things, but one I truly didn’t expect was that I would be recognized, not only by my English readers, but by many Amish people whenever I’m visiting their communities.

In addition to writing fulltime, it can be difficult to schedule time for interviews, book signings, speaking engagements, responding to emails, and keeping up with my social media pages, but I enjoy interacting with my readers so I always make the time.

What is the most difficult part of your writing process?

Every aspect of writing has some challenges, but the most difficult part for me is writing the first draft, which requires not only scene ideas, but where to begin and end each chapter.

What communities will be in the next set of books?

My next series, which I have already begun work on, is entitled Friendship Letters, and Book 1 is set in Pennsylvania. Book 2 takes place predominately in Indiana, and Book 3 will be set in Ohio. The tie-in with the series is the letters three friends write to each other.

The faith messages in your novels are so inspiring. Do you have certain Bible Scriptures that give you comfort? Are there any devotionals that are meaningful to you in your times of searching for answers?

There are many Scriptures that offer me comfort and a sense of peace during difficult times. One of those verses is found in Psalm 46:1 – “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.” A devotional I read every day for encouragement is from Our Daily Bread Ministries.

How do you keep coming up with new ideas for the storylines of your books,  and what do you use as your inspiration.

Spending time in Amish communities helps with storylines. Also, I often create scene ideas based on things that have happened to me, someone I know, or have heard about. I’ve always had a vivid imagination, so that helps too.

You have so many Amish friends. Have you ever considered living the Amish way of life?

If I had been raised by an Amish family, I’m sure I would have remained Amish. However, living with and relying on some of our modern conveniences would it difficult to lives as an Amish person at this stage of my life.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

New York Times bestselling and award-winning author, Wanda E. Brunstetter is one of the founders of the Amish fiction genre. She has written close to 90 books translated in four languages. With over 10 million copies sold, Wanda's stories consistently earn spots on the nations most prestigious bestseller lists and have received numerous awards.

Wanda’s fascination with the Amish culture developed when she met her husband, Richard, who grew up in a Mennonite church, and whose family has a Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Meeting her new Mennonite sister-in-laws caused Wanda to yearn for the simpler life. In their travels, she and her husband have become close friends with many Amish people across America. Wanda’s desire to explore their culture increased when she discovered that her great-great grandparents were part of the Anabaptist faith.

All of Wanda’s novels are based on personal research intended to accurately portray the Amish way of life. Many of her books are well-read and trusted by the Amish, who credit her for giving readers a deeper understanding of the people and their customs.

Wanda’s primary attraction to the Amish is their desire to live a devout Christian life that strives to honor God, work hard, and maintain close family ties. Whenever she visits her Amish friends, Wanda finds herself drawn to their peaceful lifestyle, sincerity, and close family ties, which is in stark contrast to the chaos and busyness that plagues so many modern “Englishers.” Time and time again, Wanda loses her heart in the Amish life, and she hopes her readers will, too.

Bargaining for the Barrister by Anneka R. Walker: Blog Tour & Giveaway

ABOUT THE BOOK

Louisa Cox is tired of fortune hunters pursuing her dowry. So when Lady Kellen offers to help her find an eligible suitor, Louisa eagerly accepts and makes a list of what she wants in a husband. The man selected is barrister Paul Sheldon. He may be a complete stranger, but he has one thing in his favor: he is unaware of her fortune. What Louisa did not anticipate was his curious behavior—or being so attracted to him.
When Paul catches wind of the matchmaking organization his mother and her friends are establishing, he pities the fellow who will be caught in their scheme—until he realizes he is to be their first victim. Horrified, Paul determines to thwart his mother’s plans by whatever means necessary. After meeting his intended, however, his increasing desire to be near her threatens to disrupt his convictions. Louisa is everything he could want in a wife, and when an unexpected adventure sets in motion the very plan he had determined to halt, he almost wishes his mother’s plot could succeed. But Paul harbors a secret and a past that make it impossible for him to give Louisa the life she deserves.

MY THOUGHTS.....

"Before I can say another word, we must all solemnly promise never to reveal our secret society. We will aid each other in our efforts until every last one of our children receives the perfect match. The potential for love will be our priority when choosing candidates for our children, with marriage being the end goal."

Paul Sheldon overhears this conversation and considers it harmless until he learns that he's the first candidate for the Matchmaking Mamas. What? He  doesn't want a wife right now, and he won't allow it to happen!  And then, he meets Louisa Cox.....famous last words, indeed!

Oh, how I love these Matchmaking Mamas who use their music club to hide their secret society! They are so funny, and they have very good intentions, but you can imagine the problems that occur while they're trying to make successful matches. Bargaining for the Barrister is a delightful romance set in 1821 England, and author Anneka R. Walker perfectly captures the English culture and customs of that time and place. Paul and Louisa share a powerful chemistry, but this is a clean Regency romance, so marriage should certainly be the next step! Can they get past the secrets they carry, and allow love to win?

Bargaining for the Barrister is the first book in the Matchmaking Mamas series, and I look forward to seeing who their next target is. Do yourself a favor and read this fun and entertaining Regency romance.

I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

MY THOUGHTS.....

Are you looking for an exciting, thrill-a-minute story that leaves you longing for the next book in the series? Your search is over! Tracking Concealed Evidence by Sharee Stover

Tracking Concealed Evidence
ABOUT THE BOOK

Unearthing clues in a murder could be the last thing they do…

To salvage his reputation, former forensic entomologist Jamie Dyer and his cadaver dog search for clues in a dismissed homicide—and find the victim’s sister, Detective Shaylee Adler, buried alive. Convinced her senator brother-in-law is behind the attack on her and her sister’s disappearance, Shaylee needs Jamie’s expertise. But can they uncover a deadly conspiracy before the killer buries the case—and them—for good?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Would you be able to stop reading a book when the first chapter revolves around someone being buried alive? Detective Shaylee Adler finds herself in this predicament and that's just the beginning of her problems. She soon finds herself on the run through the Black Hills National Forest, trying to escape unknown killers while avoiding the danger of sinkholes and gypsum mines in that South Dakota terrain. Thankfully, she isn't alone, because she's joined by a cadaver dog named Bugsy, a man dubbed Bug Dude, and a puppy named Echo. Will these unlikely partners be able to help Shaylee prove the guilt of her sister's killer? Shaylee's primary focus is proving her brother-in-law's guilt, but will she live long enough to find the evidence?

Author Sharee Stover shares an exciting, fast-paced story, with convincing characters plagued by emotional conflicts and physical struggles. Stover offers the twists and turns that are necessary for great suspense fiction, but she also succeeds in weaving a convincing faith message into her exciting plot. I recommend Tracking Concealed Evidence to all who enjoy romantic Christian suspense.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Grace Michelle finally seems to be getting her life in order. Suddenly, her peace is shattered when she receives a telegram from her deceased father. Where has he been for the last twelve years, and why has he chosen to make himself known at this time?

He just needs someone to keep his canine partner safe. Most of all, Grey wants back on his feet so he can track down a deranged scientist known as The Scavenger who unleashed a nerve agent that left Grey sidelined in a wheelchair.

When an attempt is made on Grey’s life, and dead bodies begin piling up—with evidence the same toxin is responsible—suddenly Christina is tasked with keeping both dog and soldier alive…and with them, the secrets that could stop a terrorist attack.

But this time, even Christina might be in over her head.

Dive into the exciting ignition to the Elite Guardians Collection.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This collaboration between Lynette Eason and debut author Kate Angelo is fantastic, and it offers readers first-rate writing, characters that are intriguing, and suspense that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Driving Force begins with excitement, and it never lets up. Captain Grey Parker and Christina Sherman are the best kind of hero and heroine---flawed individuals who just keep trying to overcome the odds that they're facing. Add to this mix a dog that we'd all love to own, and this story couldn't possibly be any better!

This book has danger, non-stop action, lots of questions, and a romance that leaves you hoping for more. Throw in a hefty dose of faith and inspiration, and the results are a great start to a new series. Driving Force is a nail-biter that I couldn't put down and I can't wait to see what's next in this Elite Guardians Collection.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. There was no expectation of a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Safe House Exposed by Darlene L. Turner

Safe House Exposed
ABOUT THE BOOK

Witness protection should have kept them safe.

Instead, it left them completely exposed…

Canadian border patrol officer Emma James has only one concern after putting a crime boss behind bars: keeping her daughter safe. But witness protection has a leak, and Emma's enemies know exactly where to find her. Now on the run with no safe haven, trusting her estranged former brother-in-law, police constable Mason James, to shield them is her only hope.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Safe House Exposed is a story that you don't want to miss! It has nail-biting excitement, heart-tugging emotions, and romantic tension at the top of the scale, and it's exactly what I've come to expect when I see Darlene Turner's name on a book cover. This book starts off with a bang, literally, and the danger and adventure continue throughout. Emma James is a Canadian border guard who's desperately trying to keep her young daughter and herself safe from a crime boss intent on revenge. Her father-in-law sends her late husband's brother to the rescue, but their strained relationship threatens to derail Mason James's efforts. Will Emma accept his help? Can Mason protect them, now that he is also a target?

Turner once again proves her ability to keep us guessing, and I enjoyed her focus on Canadian law enforcement agencies. Safe House Exposed has engaging characters, realistic family dynamics, and a wonderful faith message woven into its intriguing plot. We are reminded that God is always near, and He won't let us go! I recommend this book to all who enjoy Christian romantic suspense.

I received a copy of this book from the author but there was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.
