The Tiny Crown by Susan Barnett Braun

The Tiny Crown
ABOUT THE BOOK

What if you woke up to the life you'd always dreamed of? Lucinda is discontent. At 16, she faces problems at home, challenges at school, and an aching emptiness where romance should be. Surely, everything would be better in England, right? A sudden trip to the Land of Hope and Glory offers more than Cinda has ever hoped for--and maybe more than she bargained for.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Did you ever have a teacher who seemed unusually hard on you? Remember thinking, "my parents just don't understand"? How about dreaming about the cool guy in school but only getting attention from an "ordinary boy"?  I remember, and it's apparent that author Susan Barnett Braun also remembers because she's perfectly captured the angst of being a teenager!

This engaging story has realistic characters, vivid descriptions, and a plot that kept me guessing. Sixteen-year-old Lucinda Brooks considers her life boring until she travels to England, meets a prince, and experiences life in medieval England. Will Cinda choose this Cinderella existence or decide that being an American teenager isn't so bad after all?

Fantasy, time travel, a little mystery, and a lot of historical detail make this a captivating read, but I especially appreciated the powerful nod to acceptance and contentment! The Tiny Crown is labeled Young Adult, but I won't hesitate to share it with my 11-year-old granddaughter. It's also an enjoyable read for older readers like me!

I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. I am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

  1. Connie, thanks for a great review! I'll admit I struggled with how to classify this -- older kids, YA, adults? Hopefully in the end there is something they'll all enjoy. I appreciate you taking the time and effort to read and review :)
