Untaken Three: 12 Weeks Following the Rapture (End Times, Book 3) by by C.O. Wyler

Untaken Three: 12 Weeks Following the Rapture (End Times Book 3)
ABOUT THE BOOK

After the Rapture occurs, what happens over the next three months?

Seventeen-year-old Jack Hackett lives on a rural ranch in Idaho, spending every free moment hacking computer programs. When he accesses Numen's artificial intelligence implant system, he watches their participants deal with the new world of ever-present surveillance. But will he be able to help when enough is enough?

Author C O Wyler lets the reader see a view of the shock that will take place after the Rapture. She uses cutting edge head of the spear technology facts combined with Bible Prophecy in exposing the antichrist system in her new book. Worth the read! ~ Leah Tillock, ATN World News

Untaken 3 is just as compelling as the first two books. Although no one knows what will happen in the end times, Wyler weaves an ingenious storyline that left me wanting more. ~ Maria T. Henriksen, author of the Not Again series

In this 3rd installment of Untaken, original and new characters are coping with a rapidly changing world where surveillance of everything has become accepted, all privacy has been ceded, and there is nowhere to hide. ~ Anne Kelleher @Recovering Catholic, Facebook

MY THOUGHTS.....

She's done it again! Author C.O. Wyler has woven biblical truths and fictional details into a fascinating tale about the twelve weeks following the Rapture. Details that could be science fiction become a reality that mirrors our current day, including artificial intelligence and a One World Order group that sounds like the much-talked-about World Economic Forum. I'm confident that Wyler wrote this several months ago, but her insights are spot on!

This captivating Christian thriller left me with questions to answer, emotions to process, and more proof that the end of time is fast approaching! All three books in this End Times series share the message of salvation, but UNTAKEN THREE is especially thought-provoking. I recommend it and the other UNTAKEN books to both believers and non-believers. They affirm my beliefs and confirm that I don't want to be left behind!

I received a digital ARC from the author. I was not obligated to post a review.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

An Unexpected Grace (The Jewels of Kalispell, #3) by Tracie Peterson & Kimberley Woodhouse

An Unexpected Grace (The Jewels of Kalispell, #3)
ABOUT THE BOOK

Can unexpected grace lay the foundation for a second chance at love?

After a decade away, Parker Bennett returns home with a traveling troupe to perform a play based on Uncle Tom's Cabin at the Kalispell Opera House. Parker has relished his life on the road, but being home awakens long-buried emotions when he encounters his first love, Johanna St. John. He can't help but wonder if there might still be a place for him in her heart.

Widowed for three years, Johanna devotes all her time to a demanding toddler, an injured father, and a successful millinery business. After the loss of her husband, she desires to move on, but reconnecting with her past love leaves her unsure of what lies ahead. Both committed to God's distinct calling on their lives, Johanna and Parker struggle to see how their futures can unite, and when strange things start happening around town, their second chance at a life together seems more unlikely than ever.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Individually, they are awesome authors, but together, Tracie Peterson and Kimberly Woodhouse are a fantastic writing team! Their latest joint effort is a captivating historical fiction story that is an excellent finale to their series, The Jewels of Kalispell.

An Unexpected Grace has a beautiful Montana setting, a second-chance romance, and an inspiring faith thread woven into the plot. There's also history, suspense, and a cast of well-developed characters. Johanna, Parker, and Johanna's little girl Emily are certainly appealing, but Marvella Ashbury was my absolute favorite! Who wouldn't love someone who believes in the power of love and isn't afraid to use all of the matchmaking skills she's developed over the years? This heartwarming story kept me delightfully engaged, and the epilogue featuring happy victims of Marvella's matchmaking schemes is perfect!! Fans of historical Christian romance, grab a copy of An Unexpected Grace. You won't be sorry!

I received a copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers and NetGalley. There was no obligation for a positive review.

The Pursuit of Elena Bradford by Ann H. Gabhart

The Pursuit of Elena Bradford
ABOUT THE AUTHOR

At twenty-two, Elena Bradford has never met a man who made her consider marriage. But when her father dies and leaves the family deeply in debt, Elena becomes their only hope. Her mother uses their last funds to take Elena and her younger sister to Graham Springs, Kentucky, where people find healing by drinking the mineral spring water and healthy recreation through the many daily activities--including dances almost every evening.

As her mother schemes to find Elena a wealthy husband, Elena finds herself drawn to two men her mother would never consider. Charming artist Kirby Frazier spends his days drawing and painting the guests, but his real mission is to find a wealthy bride to finance his dream to go west. Melancholy Andrew Harper has come to Graham Springs in need of healing after a broken heart.

When a beautiful young lady shows up at the Springs with no chaperone and a story that seems suspicious, nearly everyone is charmed and intrigued. But when an unexpected tragedy occurs, Elena, Kirby, and Andrew will all be faced with decisions of life, love, and loyalty.

MY THOUGHTS.....

I love historical fiction, and what could be better than being wrapped up in an entertaining and educational story about my home state? I've lived in Kentucky my entire life, but never knew that people from all over the country once visited Mercer County because of the healing powers associated with its mineral water. This book is set at Graham Springs, a once popular resort near Harrodsburg, Kentucky, and it features the mystery and suspense surrounding the life and death of a beautiful young woman who visited the resort in 1842. Her identity remains unknown, and the true cause of her death is still uncertain, but her existence is a compelling backdrop for The Pursuit of Elena Bradford!

From the beginning sentence to the satisfying ending, I was captivated by the title character, Elena Bradford. Remember, in 1842, a twenty-two-year-old woman was considered a spinster. What better way to find a wealthy husband than to visit a popular resort? Author Ann H. Gabhart vividly portrays Elena's dilemma as her mother sets out to find her a husband, and three men appear to be interested in her! Poor Elena, she only wants to be loved and cherished by one good man! I loved the beautiful setting, sweet romance, and Elena's willingness to sacrifice love so that she could help her family. Gabhart's descriptive powers and the ability to weave facts with fiction have never been better! I recommend The Pursuit of Elena Bradford to all who enjoy historical Christian romance!

The Shop Down the Lane (Letters from Lancaster County, #1) by Leslie Gould

The Shop Down the Lane
ABOUT THE BOOK

Lois Yoder has always found solace in the quiet life of Paradise, Pennsylvania, where she manages a gift shop that reflects her Amish community's simple values. Her tranquil world is upended when Moses Lantz, former Amish man turned Mennonite and the man who broke her heart, buys the shop with ambitious plans to transform it into a tourist hub--a move that Lois fiercely opposes.

Seeking a distraction, Lois joins a birdwatchers' circle letter under an alias--but unknown to her, Moses does the same at the urging of a friend. While their correspondence blossoms into a tender romance, the enmity between Lois and Moses in real life only intensifies. Can they overcome their animosity and embrace the love they've found through their letters, or will their stubborn hearts keep them apart forever?

Leslie Gould delights in this sweet and gently humorous Amish romance reminiscent of The Shop around the Corner and You've Got Mail.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Reading this book was a wonderful trip down memory lane, as I recalled my years as a pen pal! Author Leslie Gould shares the sweet romance that blossoms between two former classmates who become pen pals through a circle letter devoted to bird watching. They both use aliases and are unaware that their new pen pal is also their adversary!

I loved that Gould weaves the Amish lifestyle into this clever nod to the popular movies You've Got Mail and The Shop Around the Corner. Lois, using the pseudonym Jane, becomes Menno's pen pal, or is Menno actually Moses? As they explore a joint passion for bird watching, a wonderful relationship develops between Jane and Menno, and ironically, the dynamics between the real Lois and Moses appear to be changing, too. As I read the letters between Menno and Jane, I was reminded that it's sometimes easier to write your thoughts in a sealed letter than to share them face to face!

This engaging story has wonderful characters, an enjoyable "friends-to-enemies-to-something-else?" trope, and many special letters filled with inspiration and wisdom! Not to mention, a captivating aha moment that's deliciously swoon-worthy! I look forward to more books in the Letters from Lancaster County series.

I received a complimentary copy from the author and publisher. There was no expectation for a positive review.

The Angel of Second Street (Enduring Hope, #1) by Barbara Tifft Blakey

The Angel of Second Street (Enduring Hope, #1)
ABOUT THE BOOK

How Can Compassion be Considered Wrong?

When life is weighed down by challenges, pillars of enduring hope and love are always waiting to be discovered.

Ida Dempsey has grown up in a privileged life of luxury thanks to her aunt and uncle. Although Second Street—where women of ill repute ply their wares—is off limits to respectable citizens, her heart of compassion compels her to frequent the area, hoping to make a difference in their lives. Ida has also befriended Qui Shau, a Chinese woman who keeps house for her family, but friendships between the whites and Chinese are taboo in Eureka. Ida tries to keep secret her forbidden compassion, but someone is watching and will use it against her.

When Blaine Prescott meets Ida at a church picnic, his parents warn him away from any relationship with the young lady who has been seen on Second Street in the company of a Chinese woman. But how could such a kindhearted, lovely young woman be anything but good? But when riots break out in Chinatown and Ida disappears, Blaine will do anything to find out where and why she has gone.

MY THOUGHTS.....

The Angel of Second Street is set in Eureka, California, in 1884, when influential people often had Chinese servants, and social class distinction was very real! Ida Dempsey was determined to share friendship with her uncle's Chinese maid and also change the lives of the 'ladies of the night' who worked on Second Street. Could a seventeen-year-old girl hope to make a difference? What would people think when they saw her frequenting this area?

I enjoyed this novel by a 'new-to-me' author, Barbara Tifft Blakey. The Angel of Second Street has suspense, adventure, and some clean romance, but I was especially drawn to the faith thread and the historical details woven into the plot. In her author's note, Blakey reveals fact versus fiction surrounding the Second Street brothels and the efforts of a committee chosen to rid Eureka and Humboldt County of its Chinese residents. These were unknown facts until I read this book! I recommend this book to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Mary the Missionary is perfect for young readers, but it's also a book that families can enjoy together. What better way to initiate a discussion about God's all-encompassing love than reading a story about a young girl who gets to travel with her parents to Kenya? Mary is given a first-hand view of a life entirely different than hers---living in mud huts, eating the intestines of goats, and trying to balance buckets of water on her head as she carries it from the river. Mary's mission trip is an eye-opening experience for her and a poignant suggestion for us! We must never forget how blessed we are!

Yvonne M. Morgan's engaging story is a powerful reminder of God's love for ALL of his children, and it's a wonderful way to teach children about the different countries and cultures in our amazing world. Mary the Missionary: A Kenyan Adventure is ideal for families and a perfect addition to church and school libraries.

A Wager with the Matchmaker (A Shanahan Match, #3) by Jody Hedlund

A Wager with the Matchmaker (A Shanahan Match, #3)
ABOUT THE BOOK

After her brother's entanglement with an Irish gang threatens their family's safety, Alannah Darragh flees St. Louis and her troubled past, seeking refuge as a maid for the affluent Shanahan family. Alannah's resolve to avoid romance is tested by the undeniable attraction she feels for Kiernan Shanahan. Determined to maintain her position and the safety it provides, she vows to resist the pull of her heart despite the growing bond between them and their undeniable chemistry.

In the wake of a devastating fire, Kiernan Shanahan sees a shrewd opportunity to invest in a clay mine and brickyard to aid the city's rebuilding. To secure his venture, he seeks a wealthy bride with a substantial dowry. However, the matchmaker he consults has different plans. As danger looms and Alannah fights to keep her brother safe, Kiernan's protective instincts draw them closer together, but a future with him seems too far out of reach. It will take a miracle--or a wager with the wily matchmaker--to bring the unlikely couple together.

Be swept away in a tale of love, danger, and destiny in this captivating historical romance from bestselling author Jody Hedlund.

MY THOUGHTS.....

This has been such a special series! I've enjoyed watching an Irish matchmaker work his magic for two members of the Shanahan family, but now, there's one more seeking his services! Kiernan Shanahan, with a long list of qualifications for an ideal wife, is finally ready to marry. Will he be surprised by the tricks in Bellamy McKenna's matchmaking arsenal?

I loved this book by one of my favorite authors, Jody Hedlund! It is set in 1849 St. Louis, during a time of suffering and tragedy surrounding a cholera outbreak and a great fire that destroyed much of the city. Hedlund's historical detail provides a powerful backdrop for the emotional upheaval of Kiernan and Alannah Darragh's budding relationship. A Wager for the Matchmaker has excellent character development, a captivating plot filled with history and faith, and a clean romance that sizzles with the chemistry between Kiernan and Alannah. This is a must-read for anyone who enjoys historical Christian romance!
