After years away, Astrid Nilsson has returned home to Colorado, hoping to become Fairplay’s second doctor . . . and to find healing for her reoccurring consumption. Spirited and independent, Astrid doesn’t want her illness to be a burden to those she loves, so she has resisted getting serious about any man.
As the current doctor of Fairplay, Logan Steele is seeking to hire a male physician to take over his clinic after he goes back East. When Astrid, his childhood sweetheart, insists that she’s the one for the job, he offers her a bargain she can’t refuse: pretend to court him to appease his mother and he’ll give her the doctor position on a trial basis.
Astrid accepts the arrangement even though she’s reluctant to be in a sham relationship with a man who’d once broken her heart. She tries to keep herself from falling for Logan again but soon finds herself getting much more than she bargained for. With the clock ticking for both of them, can they commit to real love before it’s too late?

“This one’s worth rounding up.” —Booklist, on Falling for the Cowgirl
*All of the books in the Colorado Cowgirls series are sweet, closed-door romances with plenty of sizzle. The inspirational themes are light, and the romance is the main focus of the books.
MY THOUGHTS.....
This isn't the first time that we've met Astrid Nillson but oh, how she's grown in her years away from Colorado! She's now a physician who's hoping to practice medicine in Fairplay but she has to convince the doubters who don't believe that women can be doctors! She also has to come to terms with the person who broke her heart so many years ago. Can she overcome her hurt and anger so that she can work with Dr. Logan Steele?
Committing to the Cowgirl is the beginning of a new series and it's another feather in Jody Hedlund's writing cap. I was fully engaged in this story which features a beautiful Western setting, family loyalties, and a second-chance romance. There are also intriguing references to an influenza epidemic and Astrid's own struggle with consumption that would have been so relevant in 1877. Throw in characters from the Colorado Cowboys series and mix in a sweet but sizzling romance and we're given a perfect addition to our summer reading! Best of all, there's the promise that book two in this Colorado Cowgirls series will be available in a few weeks. I recommend this book to all who enjoy historical romantic fiction.
I received an early copy from the author but there was no obligation of a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.
