I jumped at this chance to read this book after reading Potiphar's Wife, the first book of The Egyptian Chronicles series. In Feast or Famine continues Joseph's journey from being a slave to becoming an Egyptian official, an amazing story that is recorded in the Old Testament book of Genesis. Potiphar's Wife revealed Joseph's love for a Hebrew maid named Arupa but his story becomes even more when intriguing when he enters into an arranged marriage with an Egyptian priestess named Asenath. Their complicated relationship is plagued by Asenath's doubts about Joseph's feelings for Aruba but he remains faithful to her, even during a time when multiple wives were permissible.
Asenath is very briefly mentioned in Genesis but author Mesu Andrews masterfully weaves biblical facts and fictional details to give her a beautiful story of fidelity, forgiveness, and redemption. Asenath learns to trust in Joseph's love and she also discovers an everlasting love when she becomes a believer in Elohim, the one true God that her husband serves. This former priestess becomes an inspiration to her husband Joseph and she can also be an inspiration to anyone doubting their own self-worth. Asenath is the perfect example of God's ability to change anyone!
Andrews kept me turning the pages in this powerful account of intrigue, drama, and romance. I recommend In Feast or Famine to all who enjoy biblical fiction.
