On My Honor (Heroines of WWII) by Patty Smith Hall

On My Honor (Heroines of WWII)
ABOUT THE BOOK

A Girl Scout Troop Joins the Battle of the Atlantic

Full of intrigue, adventure, and romance, this new series celebrates the unsung heroes—the heroines of WWII.

Ginny Mathis had no intention of staying rooted in the Outer Banks—then war broke out. While working as a clerk for Oregon Inlet ferry, naval officers ask her to be watchful for German U-boats reportedly spotted in the area. To help occupy her younger sister, Ginny enlists the Girl Scout troop she leads to help watch for suspicious activity. Soon the girls are sneaking around, hiding a shipwreck survivor. Ginny must take charge, but is this man the enemy, or does he hold secrets that could turn the tide of the Battle of the Atlantic in the allies’ favor?

MY THOUGHTS.....

Intrigue, adventure, and romance during WWII, and it all happens near our American shores! Author Patti Smith Hall kept me turning the pages to see if an escaped German officer could be found before he did irreparable harm to our war effort. I love historical fiction and I learned so much about the dangerous activity that occurred near the Outer Banks of North Carolina between January and August 1942. Smith weaves true facts into her fictional story that revolves around Ginny Mathis, Timothy Elliot, and a Girl Scout troop eager to be detectives. Could a troop of Girl Scouts help capture this German spy?

On My Honor has great characters, a budding romance, and an inspiring faith element that's been woven into its plot. It also introduced me to The Battle of the Atlantic, and the nearly 400 ships that were sunk off of Cape Hatteras during these perilous months! This book is a compelling addition to the Heroines of WWII series, and I recommend it to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars
