The Christmas Tree Farm by Melody Carlson

The Christmas Tree Farm
ABOUT THE BOOK

When Madison McDowell returns from several years teaching overseas, she has high hopes of picking up where she left off at her family's Christmas tree farm in Oregon. But between damage from a recent wildfire and the neglect due to her sister Addie's unwillingness to invest, the farm is in sad shape. In fact, Addie is intent on selling the property. And to top it off, her former high school flame, the now-widowed Gavin Thompson, has plans to break Madison's heart again by turning his neighboring property into a dusty, noisy dirt bike track for his daughter.

With the odds stacked against her, Madison decides there's only one thing to double down on her dreams. It will take a ton of hard work--and some help from an unlikely ally--to save the farm she so dearly loves. But it may take a miracle to restore her relationship with her sister.

Bestselling and award-winning author Melody Carlson charms and delights with this uplifting Christmas story full of old memories and new beginnings.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Author Melody Carlson's newest novella is a heartwarming story with realistic characters, authentic life situations, and the special emotions associated with Christmas. Madison McDowell's return to her family's Christmas tree farm isn't what she expected and her dream for this family business is entirely the opposite of her sister's intent. Will Madison discover that the adage "You can't go home again" is especially true for her?

Reading Carlson's annual Christmas novella has become one of my traditions and The Christmas Tree Farm didn't disappoint! Music, food, and beautiful decorations helped set the stage, and intriguing drama provided interest, but the joy of family and rekindled romance made it especially appealing! Reading this story revived some of my personal Christmas memories!

If you enjoy Christmas stories and second-chance romance, grab a copy of The Christmas Tree Farm!

I received a complimentary copy courtesy of Revell through Interviews & Reviews for my honest opinion.

Virginia (Daughters of the Lost Colony, #4) by Shannon McNear

Virginia (Daughters of the Lost Colony, #4)
ABOUT THE BOOK

The White Doe of the Outer Banks Grows into Womanhood

Return to the “what if” questions surrounding the Lost Colony and explore the possible fate of Virginia Dare--the first English child born in the New World. What happened to her after her grandfather John White returned to England and the colony he established disappeared into the mists of time? Legends abound, but she was indeed a real girl who, if she survived to adulthood, must have also become part of the legacy that is the people of the Outer Banks.

In the spring of 1602 by English reckoning, "Ginny," as she is called by family and friends, is fourteen and firmly considered a grown woman by the standards of the People. For her entire life she has watched the beautiful give-and-take of the Kurawoten and other native peoples with the English who came from across the ocean. She's enjoyed being the darling of both English and Kurawoten alike--but a stirring deep inside her will not be put to rest.

One careless decision lands her and fellow “first baby” Henry Harvie, along with their Croatoan friend Redbud, in enemy hands. Carried away into Mangoac territory, out of the reach of Manteo and the others, she must learn who she truly -- not only the daughter of Elinor and Ananias Dare but also a child of the One True God, who gives her courage to go wherever the path of her life might lead.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Daughters of the Lost Colony has been such a fascinating series and finally, we're allowed to imagine Virginia's story! Virginia Dare, the first English baby born in the New World, is the heroine in Shannon McNear's new book and it is an engaging story filled with history, intrigue, and a lovely romance. The absolute truth surrounding Virginia's life isn't known so this book is fiction, but McNear's amazing historical research allows us to consider "what might have been"! Why couldn't this first English baby have survived the hardships that were a part of the settling of America? Why wouldn't Virginia be entitled to happiness and enduring love in North Carolina in the early 1600s?

Virginia is an engrossing story of bravery and endurance that has historical facts and fictional details masterfully woven together. It's the fourth book in the series but Virginia's timeline falls between the first and third book. Never fear, it can be enjoyed as a standalone, but you'll probably want to go back to read the others! If you love historical fiction peppered with romance and inspiration, grab a copy of this book!

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing and was under no obligation to post a review.

Here With Me (Home to Heritage Book 2) by Mandy Boerma, Tari, Faris, Susan May Warren

Here With Me (Home to Heritage Book 2)
ABOUT THE BOOK

He’s helping her stay. She’s making sure he can leave. This second chance at love in a small town will tug at your heart and make you believe in love all over again.

"Sadie and David’s journey to salvage love and a family legacy will steal your breath and reaffirm your belief in second chances. A must-read for anyone who cherishes a heart-pounding romance as much as a heartwarming happy-ever-after." USA Today best-selling author Susan May Warren

Love ignites in a last-chance hardware store, but will their hearts, like the failing family business, require a rescue?

She just wants a fresh start…

Inheriting her best friend’s daughter and a store on the brink of collapse, Sadie Hoover is determined to provide Lottie a stable life and keep the family business afloat. But her resolve is tested when the past walks in, wearing a tool belt and a smile that still weakens her knees.

Is he back to break her heart?

David Williams, once the love of Sadie’s life, returns to Heritage not as the missionary he was, but as a man in search of healing and purpose. Tasked with community service, he’s thrown into the daily grind of nuts and bolts, unaware that the hardware store’s troubles—and Sadie’s struggles—are more than just loose hinges and unpaid bills.

What will it cost her to fall for him again?

As they grapple with financial peril and the echoes of a love once lost, David and Sadie are forced to confront what they truly want. The store’s impending foreclosure looms over them, a testament to their joint past and the future they must shape.
If the store fails, they lose not just a legacy, but the second chance life has offered them. Can they rekindle their love while saving the heart of Heritage, or will their dreams rust away like forgotten tools?

Can love be rebuilt from the ruins of their shared history, or will the fight for survival drive the final wedge between them?

MY THOUGHTS.....

What if you discovered that your perception of your God-given purpose wasn't truly in His will? This was David's dilemma as he dealt with being "stuck in a tiny town, practically trapped in his late grandparent's old farmhouse." Would he continue to feel trapped or could he recognize the charms of Heritage, Michigan? Was his best way to serve God waiting to be revealed?

Here With Me is the second book in the Home to Heritage series and I'm once again caught up in this special place. A town where second chances are given, new beginnings are possible, and sweet romance isn't out of reach! Author Mandy Boerma remains true to the vision first shared by Tari Faris and Susan May Warren, and she "hits the ball out of the park" with her well-developed characters who handle real-life issues with faith, trust, and dedication to family.

I loved this heartwarming story and I recommend it to all who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction.

I received a complimentary ARC from the publisher. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor by Roseanna M. White

Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor
ABOUT THE BOOK

As the beloved stepdaughter of the Earl of Castleton, Lady Mariah Lyons cherishes her home at Plumford Manor, but her idyllic world will be threatened when the estate passes to Cyril Lightbourne, a childhood friend she hasn't seen or heard from in years. Once, Mariah dreamed their old friendship would kindle into something more--but that was before she heard that Cyril was courting the cruelhearted Lady Pearl. Now Mariah is willing to welcome him as a friend and pray he will finally be the heir her stepfather needs, but she'll keep her heart locked safely away from anyone with such poor taste.

Due to misunderstandings, Cyril Lightbourne has long avoided returning to Plumford Manor, yet he reluctantly arrives in time for Christmas. When his friendship with Lady Mariah reignites, he finds himself torn between his affection for her and her family's distance toward him because of Lady Pearl, a woman he'd rather forget. Then, more trouble arrives in the form of a Danish lord on a mission to win Mariah's hand by Christmas . . . and to disgrace Cyril in the process.

Inspired by The Nutcracker, this Edwardian-era historical romance is a tale of holiday spirit, love, and the power of family and friendship from bestselling and award-winning author Roseanna M. White.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Magical! This is the word that comes to my mind when describing this book by Roseanna M. White. It's set in England, at Plumford Manor, in 1902 and it has all of the Edwardian traditions: delicious food, beautiful decorations, and the gaiety of the season. After years apart, Lady Mariah Lyons is excited to see her childhood friend Cyril Lighthouse, but it may not be the reunion that she had hoped for! She's accepted that he'll never be more than her friend, but does he have to be involved with someone like Lady Pearl?

Christmas at Sugar Plum Manor is a sweet romance with captivating characters and a nod to the beloved ballet, The Nutcracker, but the perfect addition is the reminder that Christ's birth is the reason we celebrate this holiday today. We're reminded of this miracle and the joy and wonder that comes to those who embrace His birth as the heart of Christmas! It is a delightful novella that will put you in the mood for Christmas and its short length makes it a perfect choice when the busyness of the holiday threatens to overwhelm you. Who knows, maybe reading this engaging story each year will become one of your Christmas traditions!

I received a copy from the author. There was no expectation of a positive review.

MY THOUGHTS.....

In the preface of this new book, author Annie Weber confesses that she had never picked up a Bible until she was twenty-eight years old. I don't know her current age, but I do know that her acceptance of Jesus Christ and her continuing walk with Him has enabled her to write a book that promises to be beneficial to many different people, from new believers to seasoned Christians!

Astounding Truths of the Bible has been a special addition to my worship time. Weber shared her thoughts and experiences with humor and discerning insight and I often felt like I was in a personal conversation with her. Each of the 100 astounding truths is two pages long and they all begin with Scripture and end with a prayer. They may be bite-size, as the subtitle says, but these bites are filled with nourishment for our souls! Scripture from both the Old and New Testaments is shared and the devotions are conveniently divided into four sections. Want to know more about The Character of God? Check out Part 1. Longing to know God's Desire for His People? That's covered in Part 2. But don't forget Part 3! Weber labels it as Curious Parts of the Bible and it's filled with astounding truths that are sometimes overlooked. Finally, in Part 4, we're shown how God Equips His People. Twenty-five amazing truths of God's efforts to equip His people with the tools to live a life that honors Him!

If you're looking for a fresh perspective and in need of a new resource to help you in your study of God's Word, grab a copy of this book! Annie Weber may be new to me, but I look forward to reading more of her inspiring work.

I received a copy of this book from the author via Celebrate Lit. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Annie is a wellness enthusiast, adventure seeker, wife to Bryan, and mom to Lucy, Luke, Lily, & Levi. She enjoys beach time, fitness, photography, snorkeling, hosting parties, making people laugh, and exercising her social skills.

More from Annie

My passion and joy are found in helping people better understand the Bible, in bite-sized Truths. It was a clear calling from the Lord to write Astounding Truths of the Bible because I am well acquainted with my reader. I wrote to the gal who is not familiar with the Bible, but has a desire to understand God and His plan for His people.

At 28 years old, God redirected my path in a beautiful way. I was a new mom, home with a baby and found myself with some extra time on my hands due to the fact that I had a disciplined little girl who decided on a regular nap schedule. While little Lucy slept, I began devouring the Bible. I was so impressed that one book could include such amazing wisdom for life. I had never read the Bible before that time. That was 16 years ago, and since then the Lord has allowed me to use my gifting and talents to help explain the Bible using humor, quirky personal anecdotes, and my love of wordplay to help illustrate the teachings of God and His character.

MY THOUGHTS.....

There are so many reasons to love this new Bible from Thomas Nelson! The "Life in Christ Bible" is a New King James Version, so it is written for modern English readers while remaining true to the original King James Bible. A single-column paragraph format is used so there is ample space for journaling or jotting down notes, and there are translator notes and cross-referenced verses at the bottom of the pages. I especially appreciate that the words of Christ are printed in red because I've recently seen some new Bibles that don't offer this feature. My only negative comment is that some people might prefer a larger font.

The Bible that I received has a soft brown leatherette cover and two colorful ribbons bookmarks so it would be an attractive gift, but I plan to keep this treasure for myself! It's a wonderful study Bible that's filled with charts, maps, study aids, reading plans to supplement my devotion time, and many pages of additional commentary. I highly recommend this "Life in Christ Bible" as a valuable resource for people just beginning their Christian walk and a fantastic choice for more seasoned believers!

Many thanks to HarperCollins Christian Publishing for providing a sample of the product for this review. Opinions are 100% my own and are not influenced by monetary compensation.

A Token of Love by Carrie Turansky

A Token of Love
ABOUT THE BOOK

In 1885 London, Lillian Freemont embarks on a treacherous journey to reunite with her long-lost niece who was abandoned at the Foundling Hospital eight years ago. Fueled by her sister's plea and armed with the gold token that identifies her niece, Lillian teams up with investigative reporter Matthew McGivern to expose the grim reality of the shadowed streets of London. As Lillian and Matthew unravel the mystery of Alice's disappearance, their partnership blossoms into one of shared purpose and undeniable attraction.

In present-day London, Janelle Spencer finds herself unexpectedly running the Foundling Museum. When filmmaker Jonas Conrad arrives to document the museum's history, their collaboration takes a surprising turn as they uncover articles from the past that shed light on a haunting connection to the present. As Janelle becomes caught between exposing the truth and protecting the museum's reputation, she must decide if she can risk everything for what she believes.

In this heartfelt dual-time tale, bestselling author Carrie Turansky weaves a story of two eras bridged by the quest for love and truth.

MY THOUGHTS.....

We're aware that human trafficking is prevalent in today's society, but this new book by author Carrie Turansky reminds us that women and children have long been victims of this evil. She uses a dual timeline story, set in both Victorian England and the present, to tell the touching story of women and children in need of protection from people wanting to take advantage of them.

A Token of Love is a poignant reminder of an issue that has long plagued those unable to protect themselves! I loved learning about the London Foundling Hospital, the Foundling Museum, and the tokens that mothers left with their babies so that they could easily identify them if they were ever in the position to return and reclaim them. Turansky weaves these facts into a mesmerizing tale of good versus evil and she buffers it with an inspiring reminder of God's protection and provision. I admit that I enjoy a book with history, mystery, and romance but A Token of Love offers so much more! It is a powerful narrative of love, faith, and perseverance and an emotional story of the heart! I recommend it to all who enjoy historical Christian fiction told in dual-timeline stories.

I received a complimentary copy from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review.

Protecting the Amish Child (Amish Country Justice, #19) by Dana R. Lynn

Protecting the Amish Child (Amish Country Justice, #19)
ABOUT THE BOOK

A killer in pursuit…

and a little boy’s life is at stake.

When Francesca Brown discovers a dead body, bullets start flying her way. Soon FBI agent Tanner Hall arrives—only to find an autistic Amish boy hiding nearby. As a witness to a crime, it’s clear someone will stop at nothing to silence the little boy—permanently. With assailants on their trail, can Fran and Tanner unravel a lethal conspiracy before the murderer strikes again?

MY THOUGHTS.....

She's done it again! Author Dana R. Lynn shares another exciting story that will keep you guessing the identity of the person trying to silence Francesca Brown and the little Amish boy that she's found hiding outside her house! Is there a connection between this occurrence and the last words that her late husband said to her: "I made a mistake. Don't trust him."

Lynn takes us back to Sutter Springs, Ohio for another thrilling book in her Amish Country Justice series. Protecting the Amish Child has all of the elements that I've come to expect from this author: intriguing characters, intense action, and unpredicted repercussions from past events. It's filled with twists and turns and the promise of sweet romance but there's also an inspiring message of faith and redemption woven into the plot. If you're looking for "page-turning, can't-put-it-down" romantic suspense, grab a copy of Protecting the Amish Child.
