MY THOUGHTS.....

Wednesday is often called "hump day" but Alycat learns that her day has turned into a cattywampus, or abnormal,  Wednesday. Her day begins with seafood gumbo and ends with eggs and beignets, and everything in between is topsy turvy and backward! This cattywampus Wednesday is certainly a day to remember but Alycat proves that she's able to deal with it all!

This is a story that will make children laugh but it can also be a teaching tool. The past few years have proven that life is unpredictable and changes can occur overnight, but this cute little cat shows children that they can adapt and make the best of their situations. The text is easy to read, there are bright, colorful illustrations that children will love, and they will enjoy the tips in the author's note, with their play on words that encourage them to 'stay Paws-itive', 'to spend time with your fur-ends', and not to 'fur-get to count your blessings'.

Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday is a fun book for both children and adults, and it could be a great resource in planning a special library program or classroom activity.

I received a copy of this book from the author via iRead Book Tours. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Author Interview

1. What inspired you to write Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday?

I was inspired to write Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday during the pandemic when the world seemed strange, odd, and a bit skewed. I knew that readers needed a resource to cope with an abnormal world, and this story is written to provide comfort and grace on any unusual or strange day for them.

2. Tell me about the real Alycat? How did that come to be? Where does she tour?

Alycat the mascot is a life-size mascot that comes to author visits. In the first year of author tours, many students asked to see and hug Alycat. Since I usually listen to kid ideas, I decided to have a larger-than-life cat join in on the fun! She has her own line dance—The Alycat Shuffle and loves to take pictures in a photobooth after the author visits. Kids love her!

3. Why do you feel it is important to utilize positive thinking with change?

It appears that everywhere you turn— the news, social media, friend conversations—the topic of discussion is always geared toward what’s wrong with society. We can change that narrative by employing positive affirmations and anticipating good in the world and teach our kids to be leaders of positive thinking. Our children hear our conversations and mimic what we, as adults, conversate about and believe. The world is always changing, that won’t change, but we can correct the way we deal with uncertain situations. By being a leader of positive thinking, we can encourage an upbeat attitude among others around us, keep morale high, increase productivity, and encourage growth with their energy, interests, and their actions.

4. What is your favorite thing about being an author?

Seeing the joy and smiles from readers after I read them the stories.

5. What is in your future and/or Alycat's future?

The 5th book of The Alycat Series, Alycat and the Cattywampus Wednesday, hit shelves nationwide on May 9, 2022, traditionally published with Pelican Publishing, an imprint of Arcadia Publishing. The 6th book is in production for a Spring 2023 release, and I am writing the 7th book of the series now.

Thank you, Alysson, for talking with me today, and isn't it funny that this interview is actually being posted on a Wednesday?
