Praying Through Loneliness: A 90-Day Devotional for Women by Kristen Strong

ABOUT THE BOOK

In a season of loneliness? Take comfort in the stories of other women who share their own honest experiences of feeling isolated, struggling to find friends, and still finding a meaningful way through.

With the current crisis of loneliness and lack of friendships in today's culture, this 90-day devotional offers both lived perspective and attainable promise for how to find community and friends.

Compiled by beloved author, Kristen Strong, who offers her two decades of experience as a constantly relocating military spouse and one decade as a settled civilian to address head on the rising pain point facing women today in startling numbers: an acute loneliness and isolation due to a lack of friends.

Praying Through Loneliness is a compilation of stories from many women in all stages of life written to let you know that you are:

  • Not alone in your sadness, frustration, or sense of rejection
  • Not alone when you feel jealous of other women's friendships
  • Not alone in the pain of a friendship breakup
  • Not alone when you want to give up trying to connect again
  • Not alone in your need to know that the Lord sees you in your loneliness, has a purpose for you during it, and won't abandon you as you walk through it

Praying Through Loneliness doesn't skip over the sadness and hardship loneliness brings. It doesn't offer trite advice or give spiritual formulas to shortcut the slow work of friendship. Instead, it offers an empathetic and hopeful accompaniment in the dark night you are walking through.

Each daily devotional includes:

  • Scripture verse
  • Vulnerable story where questions and regret are seen through the eyes of Jesus who is always walking beside you
  • Hopeful message
  • Meaningful prayer references for encouragement

Spend the next 90 days with come-alongside friends and the God who has said from the beginning that it is not good for us to be alone; let them lift your burden of loneliness.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Kristen Strong shares 90 devotions in this new devotional Praying Through Loneliness: A 90-Day Devotional for Women. It is a collection of essays from women who have all experienced loneliness. Some of the women's names are familiar and others aren't but these women, in various stages of life, share their emotions, thoughts, and hard-earned wisdom so that others can benefit from what they've learned. These women of different ages and different life experiences successfully minister to so many individual needs!

Strong uses a pleasing format for her compilation. Each selection begins with scripture, followed by a moving message, a prayer, and a meaningful thought to ponder. These devotions may be short, but they're packed with solace and comfort!

"I have summoned you by name; you are mine."

Isaiah 43:1

How comforting that He knows me by name!

Isn't it amazing that He knows each of us by name?

Praying Through Loneliness gives readers 90 opportunities to learn how others have dealt with loneliness and despair. Strong divides them into 3 parts!

Part 1: Feed Your Heart

Lonely But Not Lonesome

Lonely is never lonesome, for God is always present and near, orchestrating divine plans.

                                                 Devotion #28

                                                 Sharon Swanepoel

Part 2: Feed Your Faith

The greatest gift we have is the gift of being known by our heavenly Father, who tenderly cares for us even in the darkest places.

God sees and understands you, even when you feel unseen and misunderstood by others.

                                               Devotion #55

                                               Jessica Mathisen

Part 3: Feed Your Friendships

One devotion that especially touched me is #78, "Never Truly Left Out" by contributor Karina Allen. She relates her feelings of always feeling on the outside, never fitting in, until she found a church that models the early church. She never feels uninvited, and she always feels welcomed in. As I read this, I prayed that my little country church does this also!

""Trust God to bring comfort in times of loneliness and friends at the right time."

Praying Through Loneliness isn't a "feel-good book" that glosses over hardships, but IT IS a book that will help women feel betterThis devotional is a wonderful resource for personal use and it would also be the perfect gift for people that you know are struggling.
