Butterfly Cottage by Carrie Fancett Pagels

Butterfly CottageABOUT THE BOOK

Life-changing journeys begin when three generations of women unexpectedly spend a summer at the family’s Straits of Mackinac cottage. Blurb: Three generations of women unexpectedly head out to the family’s cottage at the Straits of Mackinac for a small-town Michigan summer together. Jaycie begins an archeology internship on Mackinac Island. Her mother, Tamara, takes a break from teaching kindergarteners. And her grandmother, Dawn, struggles with a decision to sell her successful travel agency and possibly retire. Each has her own journey to pursue during this short respite time from “normal” life. One of them has a secret that will change all of their lives. Can she make this one special summer to remember or will all be devastated? Faith for family and friends will be tested, with some finally able to put the past behind them and begin anew. (Set in 2018, pre-Pandemic.)

MY THOUGHTS.....

Wonderful characters, realistic situations, and a fantastic setting....what more can you ask for when looking for a great read? How about a book with a healthy dose of hope and faith thrown in? Butterfly Cottage has all of this, and it's a lovely story that you'll remember long after you've read the last sentence. A mother, daughter, and granddaughter have many serious issues to deal with, and even though they hesitate to share them with each other, they all agree on one thing. A summer at Butterfly Cottage on Mackinac Island is exactly what they all need!

Author Carrie Fancett Pagels shares the lives of three generations of women, as they travel their individual life journeys, and she completely captures all of their emotions by showing each of their points of view in alternating chapters. This isn't a light, fluffy romance because there are heavy topics such as pancreatic cancer, cheating husbands, and alcoholism, and Pagels vividly projects all of the fear, hurt, and disappointment. She does, however, buffer them by weaving a powerful faith message throughout the story. Dawn, Tamara, and Jaycie find hope for brighter futures by learning to trust in God and the plan that He has for their lives. There may even be romance on the horizon!

Butterfly Cottage is a heartwarming, inspiring book and I recommend it to all who enjoy contemporary Christian fiction.

I received a copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
