Heroine Interview with Cornelia Gill from Dogwood Plantation Plus Two Giveaways

Today is a special day at Older & Smarter? blog. Virginia resident Cornelia Gill answers our questions, and then, at the end of this post, there are two special giveaways for you to enter!

Heroine Interview with Cornelia Gill

From the new Christian Fiction novel

Dogwood Plantation

By Carrie Fancett Pagels, Ph.D.

Q: Welcome, Cornelia, I'm absolutely  thrilled to have you visit today. Can you tell  all of us a little bit about your childhood?

Yes, ma’am. I was brought up in my family’s cabin which is on property edging Dogwood Plantation in Charles City, Virginia. I was an only child until I was nigh onto thirteen. Then we were blessed with the arrival of my younger brother, Andy. My grandmama lived with us until her death. She never recovered from my grandfather losing her family’s property (Dogwood Plantation) gambling in a card game during the American Revolution. You see, it had been in the Pleasant family’s possession since the sixteen hundreds!

Q: Wow, I think I’d have trouble, too. What is your current situation in life?

I was trained at a girls’ academy in Richmond, Virginia, at a rather advanced age of sixteen. They helped me learn bookkeeping skills and I accepted a position at the school. When I lived at home, I followed my father around Dogwood Plantation and helped him sometimes in his office. He was the manager there.

Q: So you live in Richmond now?

I returned home when my father died, recently, and I am taking care of my brother. Our mother died some years ago. I currently do not have a position. With the yellow fever epidemic, things are very much in flux here in Charles City.

Q: Oh my. And do I understand that the War of 1812 yet continues?

Yes, ma’am. I worry that my childhood sweetheart, who also has had to return home to care for his four orphaned nephews, may push past his leg injury and return to the Navy. With Bonaparte defeated, the English may now turn all their formidable force upon us!

Q: You live in perilous times. Is there anything you wish for the readers to know about you?

Yes, although my second cousin, Hayes Davis, is a wonderful man, and my only living relation, I do not see how I could in good conscience accept what is beginning to sound like an offer of marriage! Perhaps the readers can advise me if I am better off listening to my heart.

Cornelia, thank you for spending time with us. I look forward to finding out what your future holds.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Injured veteran, Carter Williams, likewise must return to Dogwood Plantation when he suffers grievous family losses. Both become caretakers to younger family members. 1. This story sounds fantastic. I actualkt read the book. Cornelia had a difficult life but she keeps persevering. Does she solve the problem of marriage to Hayes? Does the yellow fever epidemic continue? Read this very historical book. I through enjoyed it.

  2. Please don't enter me as I've read this wonderful book as well! Great interview! Sometimes our hearts are deceptive, so maybe Cornelia should trust her gut. But then perhaps in this case she SHOULD listen to her heart. I'll never tell. lol

  3. Cornelia and Carter sound like they have had a great deal of responsibility put on their young shoulders.
Cornelia should definitely listen to her heart!

  4. Great interview! I'm not entering either as I have read this wonderful book. Cornelia certainly has faced a lot of challenges and changes in her life. Now she has a decision to make, should she follow her heart or a different path? I'll not tell.
    Blessings, Tina

  6. This sounds so lovely, Carrie! Congratulations on the new book! I of course always lean toward the side of true love, and I always thought it would be weird to marry a cousin (even though it was socially acceptable)...hopefully there’s a happy ending in there for everyone!

  7. Great interview! I don't think Cornelia shouldn't make a quick decision. Considering the times, I think she needs to think over the pros and cons of each choice and pray that God will show her the way.
