 MY THOUGHTS.....

This is a lovely book about an amazing little girl who makes 'every single day the Best_Day_Ever'. Although it's never fully explained, it's apparent that Macey has some issues, but she meets them head on with her cheerful, positive attitude.

Colorful illustrations and easy-to-understand text make this a very entertaining book and author Caitlin Bangsund adds to the fun by hiding a little weasel among the different pages. It is, however, the book's message that makes it so special. Even in her trials, Macey is able to find happiness and joy! This book inspires, encourages, and challenges all of us to offer kindness and acceptance and I consider Marvellous Macey: The Delightful Days a wonderful resource for parents, caregivers, and school libraries.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author via iRead Book Tours. There was no obligation for a positive review.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

  1. Where do you get inspiration for your stories?

I have always kept a journal and I write everything down (I even took notes on how to parallel park during drivers ed while practicing it with my instructor). My inspiration comes from my daughter Macey’s true story of survival, and the constant note-taking helps guide me.

When I take the time to reflect and write about how I am feeling it helps me uncover the messages I want to spread. Watching Macey live her life to the fullest after having to battle so much for health inspires me, so it is easy to want to inspire others by sharing her story.

2. What is the significance of the weasel in the book?

The weasel’s name is “pop-goes-the-weasel” and he is actually one of Macey’s imaginary friends. She has a lot of imaginary friends, but “pop” has been around for years.

It was cute because when I first showed her the book she loved seeing his character. That was good because I was worried about how to depict a “friend” that only she can see!

  1. Do you snack while writing? Favorite snack?

I don’t snack often when writing. And if I drink anything the rule is I must have it on the table behind me or in a sippy cup (ha!).

The reason for this is I had a VERY expensive accident at the end of 2020. I spilled an entire cup of scalding hot coffee on my brand new laptop. Many dollars and weeks later it was in my hand, repaired, but I force myself to be pretty strict with it now!!

  1. What surprised you about the self-publishing process?

All the things I would end up learning about content creation, graphic-making, marketing, social media, and sending emails.

Writing the book feels almost like the ‘small’ part of the equation. The other stuff has been really fun to learn though!

  1. What is your favorite dessert?

If I had to pick just one I would eat soft, warm chocolate chip cookies.

P.s. Candy and cookie dough are close seconds. I’ve also been known to enjoy stuffing chocolate in bread (don’t judge because you know how delicious chocolate croissants are, right?).

  1. Do you have another profession besides writing?

I have a small home gym where I have run fitness classes and offered private sessions over the years. Although that has been on hold due to Covid, I now have the opportunity to focus on writing!

  1. What is the biggest challenge you’ve faced in your life?

Working to heal after experiencing trauma has been really challenging. During Macey’s journey with childhood cancer and her time on life support it was very challenging, but my personal experience has been that I hold it together during crisis quite well.

It is later, when the dust ‘settles’ that I start to really feel the impact of what we battled. Recognizing my triggers and learning to cope with normal life has taken time and is not easy.
