About Me I am a retired librarian and I now support books and authors through my reviews.

I have always loved to read and I was able to share that love through my work as a public librarian for 22 1/2 years. I now promote literacy by reading, and then writing reviews. I love to support authors by sharing my reviews with others!

Capers and Harry: High Climbing by Mother Melania: Review & Giveaway with iRead Book Tours

Join Us for This Book Series Tour:  May 2 to May 22, 2022

I'm thrilled to have a chance to read and review one of the books in this special series. All four books in the Fearless and Friends book series feature heart-warming, lovable characters, who hold your attention throughout their escapades, but I have chosen Capers and Harry: High Climbing. These members of the Pond Community behave badly, but will they somehow redeem themselves? That is the question and the surprise and the charm of this book, and each of the others in this series. The author, Mother Melania, offers valuable lessons, and illustrator, Cayce-Marie Halsell, allows us to see the charming animals of the Pond in action. Part of the charm of the illustrations is that they look like they were done with crayons!

MY THOUGHTS.....

This is such a special book! Mother Melania, the author, shares the adventures of Harry the hound and Capers the cat and she perfectly captures their unique qualities. I adored Harry, a big, easy-going dog who is a wonderful listener, and this is good because Capers the cat talks ALL of the time! Capers is a bit egotistical and you wonder why Harry doesn't take him down a notch or two. Harry, however, understands that this is just the way Capers is. Harry displays kindness and acceptance. Isn't this what a true friend does?

Children will enjoy the easy-to-read text and the illustrations by Cayce Grace Kruse make the story come alive. Capers and Harry: High Climbing is the best kind of children's book: it teaches while it entertains, and children won't even realize that this is happening!

I received a copy of this book from the author via iRead Book Tours. There was no expectation of a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Meet the Author:

Mother Melania is the Abbess of Holy Assumption Monastery in Calistoga, CA. She grew up in a house that always had tons of children around, her poor parents had to read to her till they were hoarse, and from the moment she learned to read, she always had her nose in a book. So, it was only natural for her to grow up to write children's books. In her books, she strives to teach virtue in a fun, non-preachy way.
