ABOUT THE BOOK
I'll be there (but I'll be wearing sweatpants): finding unfiltered, real-life friendships in this crazy, chaotic world.
There are few things that can feel more challenging than making friends as an adult. Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston address common obstacles to true connection and offer a confessional, hilarious, and practical guide for building friendships in the middle of this crazy, rollercoaster life.
If you've ever wondered why it seems like such a struggle to make and maintain friendships as an adult--it's not just you. The number of Americans who claim to have no close friends has drastically increased over the last few decades. Loneliness doesn't care what age you are, how many Instagram followers you have, or where you call home. It doesn't care how "put together" you appear to the outside world. Women have a collective wound that only authentic sisterhood can heal.
In I'll Be There (But I'll Be Wearing Sweatpants), Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston, creators of the popular online community "Sister, I Am With You," offer an-easy-to-follow road map to the place we all desperately want to be--standing beside other women who see us, know us, and love us for who we truly are. With hilariously relatable vulnerability and actionable steps we can all take today to build deep and satisfying friendships, Amy and Jess show us how to

- break free from unhealthy habits that block us from connection;
- find the confidence to live freely and without fear of rejection; and
- intentionally pursue friends in everyday life.
I'll Be There (But I'll Be Wearing Sweatpants) won't talk down to us, or boss us around. It won’t give cliché or empty advice that leaves us feeling even more discouraged than before. This book will snuggle up beside us, grab a fuzzy blanket, and say "Let me show you how to do it. I’ve been there too. It’s hard, but it’s not impossible, and it’s so much better together."
MY THOUGHTS.....
Are you in need of a huge dose of encouragement? Do you find yourself wishing for a true friend that you can always count on? If your answer to either question is "Yes", then this is a book that you definitely need to read! Real-life friends Amy Weatherly and Jess Johnston freely share their experiences, and wonderful nuggets of wisdom, in 'I'll Be There (But I'll Be Wearing Sweatpants)'. It is a refreshing new book that provides all of the feels, and I laughed, cried, and was totally engaged. It is filled with tips for finding a true friend, becoming the very best friend, and learning to like and accept yourself. You won't be afraid for your friend, 'your person', to see you in torn sweatpants, with hair that hasn't been combed, and a sink that won't hold any more dirty dishes!
I'll Be There (But I'll Be Wearing Sweatpants) targets women of all ages, and I believe that you'll recall feeling alone and unwanted as a teenager, as a college student, after joining the workforce, and even as a wife and mother. Learning how to change those feelings is what we need, and this is the way to start. Read this book that is meant to be highlighted, to be read again, and to be shared with others!
I received a complimentary copy but there was absolutely no obligation for a review. These are my own thoughts.
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Jess Johnston lives in Southern California with her husband and four kids who are the loves of her life. Her favorite thing to do is to sit around a table with her best friends, eating nachos and laughing until her stomach hurts. She has been a top contributor to publications such as HuffPo, Scary Mommy, and Motherly. Amy and Jess started the Facebook page Sister, I am with you as a space for women to talk about real and raw friendship. The page exploded to nearly one million followers in just two years time. You can follow Jess there, and on her own Facebook page, Jess Johnston, as well as at wonderoak.com. I'll Be There (But I'll be wearing sweatpants) is her first book and is full of hilarious confessionals, and down to earth (real) thoughts on friendship from her own journey.
