ABOUT THE BOOK

Sword of Trust

(Winds of Change #2)

Deirdre Mackenzie has spent her life hiding from her father and hating the English. However, when she is caught stealing from an English laird, his unexpected kindness begins to melt away her hatred and strums lonely heartstrings longing for love. Bryce Warwick discovers the “boy” caught with his livestock is actually a young woman. After several attempts to lure the truth from her, he determines she is as deceitful as his late fiancĂ©e who nearly cost him his life. But the woman is the least of his worries with the turbulence brought on by threats of another border war and by King Richard's distrust of the nobles.

With old wounds in need of healing and adversaries who would ruin their chances at true love, both must learn to trust in a way they never knew possible.

The stakes are high, secrets prevail, and treason is just a kiss away.

EXCERPT

The woman had a stubborn streak in her that surpassed that of King Richard. Bryce frowned as he waited for a response from her. But instead of a response, she kept her folded arms before her and glared back at him. The wench not only had spirit, but she had courage. Bryce grudgingly admired that in her.

He didn't want to like or admire her. That complicated an already complex situation. He still hadn't figured out what to do with the woman. It might help if he knew what she kept from him and ---he paused in his thoughts---if she didn't get more beautiful every time he saw her.

Lord have mercy on him, but in the past sennight the swelling had gone down in her face and the bruises had began to fade, giving him a glimpse of her real beauty.

He continued to wait for her answer. Little did she know that her silence spoke volumes. It told him that she did keep something from him.

As he continued to stare down at her, he searched through his memory for a clue of what secret she kept. He thought back on some of her outbursts. She'd called him a murderer and said he'd taken what was hers. And then when he'd asked her what he'd taken of hers, she'd whispered so quietly he knew she didn't think he'd heard. But he had and it had bothered him more than he'd wanted to admit. Aye, he heard the pain in her words, my best friend.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Many girls dream of knights in shining armor, and Lord Bryce Warwick would certainly seem to fit that description, unless....you're a Scottish lass named Deirdre, who dresses like a boy and has a deep hatred. for anything English. Deep hurts from the past have caused both of them to doubt the intentions of others, so is it any wonder that they are leery when they meet? Bryce values honesty and it's apparent that this 'boy' is hiding something!

Author Debbie Lynne Costello captured my interest immediately with this medieval tale set in 1399 during King Richard's reign, and she kept me enthralled until the very end. Sword of Trust is a thrilling, exciting adventure, with numerous twists and turns, and several secondary characters who add interest and intrigue. It is, however, the fascinating relationship between Deirdre and Bryce that is so captivating! I loved watching their personal relationship blossom, along with their deepening trust in God.

Sword of Trust is filled with the knights, castles, and rivalries that are synonymous with medieval times and I highly recommend it to all who enjoy historical Christian romance.

I received a copy of this book from the author. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
