Abuela
made cookies to eat after school. The gingersnap kind, just the thought
made us drool! We rushed home excited. We opened the door…The cookies
were missing - just CRUMBS on the floor! Can you help the kids crack the
case of the GINGERSNAP SNATCHER?
Grandmothers love to make cookies for their grandchildren, but what happens when the cookies are eaten before the grandchildren get home from school? Author Vicky Weber shares a fun story that will delight both children and adults, as three siblings try to solve the mystery of the missing cookies. The bright, colorful illustrations and rhyming text make Gingerbread Snatcher especially appealing and there's also a song for added fun! As a former librarian, I can see this book being used for a holiday children's program and it would also be a wonderful resource for teachers. Do yourself a favor and snatch up a copy of Gingerbread Snatcher!

As many people know, music is a universal language and has learning benefits, especially for children. But people often assume that’s just because music is good for your brain. Well, it is but there’s more to it!
First, music actually uses the alphabet - letters A-G are the actual names for music notes on the staff. Because of this, children have additional exposure to letters which reinforces recognition.
Second, when you read in English, your eyes move from left to right and then move to the next line. Rinse and repeat. This eye movement takes practice though - it doesn’t come naturally to many children. But in music, your eyes read the notes the same way you read words and letters. This process is called “tracking” and it’s the reason why some children catch on to the movement easily - practice makes permanent!
Third, just as words and sentences have structure and can be broken down into parts, music is no different. There are symbols for “punctuation” and ways to indicate how music should be played, just as written language does.
But most importantly...music is fun and so is reading!
Vicky Weber is a musician and an elementary educator with a love for children’s literature. As a Puerto Rican author of Taíno descent, she strives to create picture books that are fun, engaging, and educational. All her current titles are based on her background in music education or her heritage. While she has taught a variety of grade levels, primary level education is where her passion lies. It has long been a dream of hers to teach children through the magic of books and she hopes you love reading her works as much as she loved writing them.
