Healing Hearts for the Holidays
by Anneka R. Walker

Julia Hunt is strictly forbidden from associating with the family in the nearby manor—including the handsome younger son, Esmond, who quickly steals her heart. With Christmas around the corner, an old bundle of hidden love letters may be the key to her own happily ever after.

A Christmas Correspondence

In this novella inspired by the timeless tale, A Christmas Carol, John Charleston finds himself on an unexpected journey in the company of the insufferable Lady Caroline Morleigh. But the magic of the season has a way of softening even the hardest of hearts.

MY THOUGHTS.....

Fans of Regency fiction, you're in for a treat! Meet Me Under the Kissing Bough is a collection of three Regency romances that are set around Christmas, and each one has a sweet romance, a heartwarming story, and an inspirational message.

Meet Me Under the Kissing Bough has a widow who is having a Christmas party for the first time since her husband's death. Deborah Winfrey is expecting one special guest who is himself a widower, and  she believes they share a connection. Does she dare hope that she can  find love a second time? Better yet, can she and Philip enjoy it together? Josi S. Kilpack vividly portrays Deborah's emotions, and I loved learning more about the kissing b ough tradition.

Anneka R. Walker has given us a very special heroine in Healing Hearts for the Holidays. Julia is very concerned about the complications in her sister's pregnancy, and she feels an attraction for Esmond Park, a man that her father has forbidden her to see. Julia desperately wants to mend the rift between their two feuding families, but her efforts to be a peacemaker may come at a high  price.  I enjoyed the light mystery connected to this story, and I found myself cheering for Julia and Esmond's relationship. If anyone deserves a happily-ever-after, it would be Julia!

'The fact was that John Charleston felt dead. Dead as a doornail, really, whatever that meant.' Reading the first sentences of A Christmas Correspondence should have been my first clue, but it wasn't until I learned the name of Caroline Morleigh's late father that I could see the connection between this novella and A Christmas Carol. Jacob Morleigh's influence on young Caroline made her very cold, heartless, and 'Scrooge-like'. She is easy to dislike and it's only through the actions of good people that we see her change. In a nod to Dickens's tale, there is a Timothy; a young woman who needs medical treatment that her family can't afford; and three letters from Jacob that offer Caroline a reason for his actions.  I was totally wrapped up in Sarah McConkie's story of forgiveness and redemption.

Meet Me Under the Kissing Bough is both entertaining and inspiring, and I will enjoy reading this collection of novellas again!

I received a copy of this book but there was no obligation for a favorable review. These are my own thoughts.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Sarah
 L. McConkie
started her writing career in the second grade with a thirteen-page magnum opus about dinosaurs. Although the plot line and penmanship lacked polish, Sarah learned she loved retiring to bed thinking of what to write the next day. On a good night, she still does the same thing. Sarah took up the pen several years later after tucking her own little dreamer into bed and now combines modern life experiences, a robust knowledge of regency classics and a passion for all things old fashioned and proper to craft her historical romances. She co-stars with her own Mr. Right in the real-life romantic comedy she calls life. Sarah believes creating thought-provoking and moral stories promotes literacy in a world that needs more readers. She has a bachelor’s degree in Music Education and taught junior high choir for several years before becoming a stay-at-home mother to four darling children. She currently teaches piano and voice for BYU independent study.
