MY THOUGHTS.....

Trimming the Christmas tree with lights, and finding the perfect spot for each ornament, is usually a very special part of the holiday season. This new Christmas book tells the charming story of two children who are excited to see their Christmas tree being decorated shortly after Thanksgiving. Each night Hannah and William Miller sit and view their beautiful tree, but it isn't until Christmas Eve that they discover just how special it is. Hannah climbs out of her bed to spy on Santa, but instead finds that the ornaments on the tree are alive!

Author Kristin Sponaugle shares a sweet tale of magical ornaments that play, talk, and laugh the night away, and children will eagerly dive into their fantastic adventures. Colorful illustrations by Agus Prajogo and Sponaugle's use of clever names make each ornament so much fun to get to know. Who wouldn't like to see Nutmeg the Gingerbread Man and Jack the Nutcracker sliding down the garland on the tree, or the two bird ornaments, Snowflake and Holly, flying around it and chirping Christmas carols?

Children will love The Living Christmas Tree and reading it with them could become a family tradition. Don't we all need a little Christmas magic in our lives?

I received a copy of this book from the author via iRead Book Tours. There was no obligation for a positive review. These are my own thoughts.

Anticipating the Magic of Christmas: The Story Behind The Living Christmas Tree

As a young child, one of my family’s traditions was setting up and decorating our family Christmas tree on the day after Thanksgiving. Each year I would get so excited to unpack the ornaments and place them on the tree. The ornaments, beads, and garland twinkling in the Christmas lights on the tree seemed so magical to me. In my head, I imagined the Christmas ornaments would come to life and enjoy scampering around the tree, visiting with one another, and having grand adventures. My mom would often find me kneeling in front of our tree, playing with the ornaments and moving them around. I kept this story-line going the entire Christmas season until we took our tree down shortly after the New Year. Each morning I looked forward to playing with my magical Christmas tree. I even remember daydreaming about my ornaments’ adventures when I was away from the tree! For quite a few years, as the Christmas season would approach, I would impatiently wait for our Christmas tree to be set up and decorated so I could play with the ornaments. Playing with the ornaments made Christmas seem just a little bit more magical to me.

I was so nervous to put this idea to paper, as this story is a favorite childhood memory, but I wanted others to feel the magic of Christmas just as I did when I was a little girl. I hope my book inspires other children to look at their tree in a whole new way, and to anticipate the magic of Christmas as soon as their tree stands tall!
